Rolex GMT Master II - L116710
Hi all,
Is the Rolex GMT Master II (ceramic) a good watch to buy? I have been a Tag Heuer fan all these years, but instantly liked the GMT when i saw it. Also can someone let me know how much i should expect to pay in US$ for this watch? Also how can i identify a real rolex from a fake one. Can you'll please advise? Thank you... |

you'll find deals on pre-owned gmt2c for around $5300 to $5800 range. as for knowing authenticity? you need to immerse yourself in images and information. handle a few. rolex watches have a particular feel. besides, if you buy here on the forum from a regular seller, you'll be in good hands.

Agreed with above. For me, the GMT IIc is the best watch that Rolex produces today - high technology, stunning good looks, accuracy, robustness, dressiness, and all round practicality. If I could only own one watch in the world, this would be the one I'd have

The GMT II ceramic is one of the most popular models in the Rolex lineup, especially the stainless steel version. When it was first released, the steel model sold for a premium over the list price; however, prices now have settled to more reasonable levels.
However, it isn't perfect (no watch is) and there have been observations that the polished centre links (PCLs) scratch too easily, and that the font used for the numerals on the bezel is too large, thus giving it an overcrowded look. These are aesthetic issues that vary among individuals - as they say, one man's meat may be another's poison. In addition, there have been questions raised about the durability of the ceramic bezel and the new clasp, though I believe these refer to very isolated incidents and form the very small minority. Hope this helps. |

GMT IIc is my first, and probably my last Rolex. I don't think I could ever justify spending so much on a watch again.
It's great! Looks amazing, but discrete. Accurate beyond all reason for a self winder. Feels solid, fits well, but not too heavy. A real classy watch you can be proud of and wear every day. Go for it :-) |

Hi Guys,
thanks for all the replies. Sorry it took so loong... Bought the watch and LOVE IT!!! Fully worth the price and satisfaction of wearing a GMT Master. Have always wanted to own one since i was 15 - so 19 years later - got it!!! thank you all for your advise. Just another question or 2 perhaps... 1. How long should the watch work for after i take it off my wrist 2. Is it okay to leave the watch unworn for long periods? I have another Tag which i also like to wear... or should i get a watch winder? 3. Setting the time can be complicating - any advise or a weblink someone can provide me? THanks again.... |

Absolutely no problem letting it stop for a while....it should run for just under 2 days (48 hours) when taken off, if it has been worn for a good while in other words fully wound....have a search on here for how to set it, there are a few different ways people use the different time zone complication, best to have a look and decide which one suits you personally....fantastic watch by the way...the novelty will not wear off....

i think the instructions in the manual are straightforward enough. think of it like this... when setting the minutes, think where you want the 24 hour hand to be. when the 24 hour hand is at the hour you want, and the minute hand is where it should be, go to the jump hour position, and rotate the hour hand to current time and date... pesto...

Congratulations, Azim!
FWIW, I set the 4th and minute hands first, jump the hour hand, and then wind the watch. Don't know how others do theirs.
