Ready for my First Rolex
I told myself that as soon as I finished my Masters Degree, I would buy myself a Rolex. That time has come. Should the first one be a new one or should it be a pre-owned? If I went NEW, is an AD the only option and if so, will they come off the retail price?

Welcome to TRF! For an "accomplishment" gift, you may wish to consider new. If you don't have a relationship with an AD, consider a new in box (NIB) from one of the reputable TRF sellers.

Some ADs give a discount and some don't.....as for new over pre-owned that is your choice. And we do have some very good gray market dealers here on the Forum so check them out!!!

Congrats on your Masters Degree and welcome to TRF, a Pre-loved will do the job as long as it's a late model...

In contrast to most people's comments....(even though the next watch I would buy would be from one of the well reputed sellers over here) because it is your first rolex, and because you've worked soo hard to achieve it....I say go to an AD and buy it, most ADs are willing to discount...and if there is one or two that are not willling to...there are plently more that would....just depends on the model that you want. The ADs out here have nice stores...and its a great feeling to be walking out the store with it on your wrists...its your first "baby"......let the moment be special....it might be a few hundred more....but its...worth IMO.....LOL it feels like going to Toys R' Us on your birthday

Congrads, I just did the same thing and ended up talking to AD's only to find the watch I wanted for a fraction of the price here on TRF by a trusted seller once I finished my MBA about 2 weeks ago

Potential Candiate
Well gentlemen, how about a new unused 2005 model (likely unsold inventory). Here is the link. There is a similar with a gold face for $4200. What do you all think about this option and the price being asked?

Congrats on your achievement!
There is something to be said for buying your 1st Rolex with an AD. However, if you decide to flip later, you'll be taking a big hit due to depreciation values. There are reputable members here providing BNIB's and LNIB's that you may want to consider. Happy Hunting. |

Congrats on getting youy Master. I know the feeling, and it's for sure a nice one!
For this kind of ocation and this also being your first Rolex and all, I say go with a BNIB from one of the trusted sellers on this forum. Sure, if you can find an AD in your area that can offer you a watch and price that you're happy with, well then that is of course hard to argue against. Cheers, Joe

Congrats on your accomplishment!
As far as purchasing, you have many options, but it just comes down to which you're most comfortable with. Looking forward to seeing your first Rolex! |

Going grey means buying from one of the non AD resellers. You will find some reputable ones on line but you would be wise to try the trusted guys on this forum. I've used both. You have to be careful and check references. I just purchased a BNIB last week and one this week both from non AD's and both with no problems and at very good discounted pricing.

Buy from DavidSW or one of the other reputable sellers on TRF and save yourself A LOT of money. Seriously, you will save a ton of cash and get the real deal--if you specificy--from an AD with the warranty card in your name.
It's a touchy subject here sometimes, but I honestly don't understand why anyone would not want to save money and get the exact same watch with the exact same warranty. Sure ADs and those who prefer them will try to convince you with their extras like chocolates and free cleanings and kissing your butt and questioning the security of your warranty. But the truth is you're ultimately getting the same watch with the exact same guarantee. People can talk about the "sense of comfort" and "support" they get from their A.D., but the truth is it's overpriced nonsense that preys on your fears. It's BUSINESS! The A.D.s want to make money, and you want to save it! Just my two cents, of course, as I am not that bright. |

All in all, I don't think it's preying on fears to say that the AD experience can be a very rewarding buying experience. Sure if you shop 5 different AD's and you find a great Grey Market guy on here that you feel comfortable with, who can beat their price by $1000 dollars- go with him. However, I bet if you shop around, some AD will probably give you just as good a price or close enough that it's worth going with them. On a $5000 + purchase, I think a few extra hundred bucks is certainly worth the piece of mind coming from an AD. Anyway, that's my opinion.. by the way, which watch are you leaning towards? |

Read my post again, and you will see I wrote "REPUTABLE sellers," and I know because I've done it several times. I'll take the "Pepsi Challenge" and pit my DavidSW against your AD any day of the week. |

They are willing to discount by 10% even 15% the hard to sell models both ladies and gents which most of us are not interested to buy. If you are looking for a classic Rolex, a newly introduced Rolex or a sport Rolex..? authorised dealers will not be interested to discount. The TRF for sale section is a place to look for some fantastic deals both new and used...with many desireable & hard to find models available for sale. Compare prices and you will be pleasantly surprised. |
