Looking to replace my GMT Master II but not sure which model to buy? Need a versatile, tough model...based on your experience which is the toughest Rolex model out there...?

You need to figure toughness with versatility..
..The Explorer II wins this hands down..:thumbsup

However, with the new release of the Explorer 39, and it's in-house paraflex shock system... It could use a good look............

I think you should stick with a ss sport model. Sounds like a Sub or a Explorer II would work out perfectly for you.

what is then the main difference between an Explorer II and my GMT master II? Any recommendation on a specific year model?

If it has crown guards it should stand up pretty well to the rigors of most mere mortals daily lives, or ... if you are a super hero get a DSSD, looks like you should be able to fire that thing out of a cannon with out an serious repercussions.

EXP II . Nothing moving except the hands. Also it's a little lower profile on your wrist so it won't catch or bump as much.

It depends on what you intend to do with your watch, but it is my opinion that every watch in the Oyster series is as tough as most people require.

If you need more, then Rolex has a model that stand up to pretty much what you're going to put it through.

May we ask why you want to replace your GMT Master II. It can handle pretty much anything you throw at it? Plus with it being discontinued (the 16710 model) it will only become more desirable.

My SSSub is on its third combat tour (2 with Special Forces in Afghanistan and 1 tour in Iraq). It's survived a car crash, motorcycle wreck, skydives, scuba dives and Cub Scout meetings. Most telling, it has outlasted four girlfriends and a and a divorce.
Eight years old and it looks brand new! Great daily driver. That said, I like the comments about the Explorer II. I don't think you'll go wrong with any of the 40mm SS models.

What about SS daytona. I dont think it has any flimsy bezel...it also has the best bracelet

Well, I have been wearing my GMT Master II religiously for the past 10 years and I am just getting a bit tired of it, that is why I want to replace it...I like the option the have a second/third time zone, but not really using it (altough I do travel quite a lot) and most of the time I don't even look at the date. But I want to wear a watch without paying attention to it, swim with it and that has a clear dial...because at the end of the day, I need to read the hour...I looked at the new explorer 39mm as recommended by Tools and it look just perfect for me. Btw, does anybody has an idea of the retail price?

Ahhh i see...Well the EXPII is a great suggestion. I just bought a white one last month and it really is stunning. It is elegant and tough at the same time. Having said that my absolute fav is my Sub 16610. I have worn it pretty much 5 days a week for the past 7 years and it can take anything you throw at it and still look good. If i had to choose one watch from my Sub/EXPII/GMTII, i would keep my Sub.

Good choice.. Current Explorers are around 5,000, and the new Exp 39 will probably be about 500 more........., so the could seem like a bargain.........
