Measurement of Rolex cases
Can anyone tell me how you measure the size of a case? For example, a 40mm Sub - is it measured across the case (9 o'clock to 3 o'clock) minus the crown guards?
I only ask because my Tag is meant to be 39mm but doesn't quite measure up. I would like to know where Rolex measure from as I'm planning to get either a 36mm or the new 39mm Explorer. Trying to visualise what the 39mm will look like size-wise. Thanks. Last edited by OTE200; 19 April 2010 at 10:46 PM.. Reason: Typo |

Rolex case measurements never include the crown guards or the crown..
It is generally accepted to measure the backside at the flat under the crown across to the opposite side...

The only watch I ever measured was the DSSD and I got the 44mm case size going 4 o'clock to 10 o'clock, from the back side, as it tapers toward the bezel. Not sure if this helps, though.

Ok thanks.
The only way I can get 39mm out of my 39mm Tag is if I include the crown guards. So I guess the 39mm Explorer is going to wear slightly bigger than my existing "39mm" watch... |

The Exp 39 will be an interesting watch to get in hand..
The Sub is a measured 39mm watch (Sub Date is 40); so the Exp should wear like and have the same presence on the wrist as the Sub, Daytona, or Exp II.. Doing some 'screen measureing", it seems that it will have the larger Milgauss size dial and crystal though. It will be nice to get some real comparisons.............
