Rolex Daytona Prices - Y series - PLEASE HELP!
Hello!
I can purchase a Y series Daytona for $8500. Box, no papers. Is this a good deal? Anyone know when the Y series were manufactured? Should I look for a newer model? Thanks in advance. |

For that kind of money I'll look for one with box and papers. You will find it soon enough in the FS section.
Don't rush. |

Y models were out during the 2002 through 2004 period, so it would be a newer 4130 movement model. I think that 8,500 is very reasonable...

I'm trying to obtain one for my husband's 30th birthday. It is in excellent shape. Other option is to buy a 2005 model w/ box and papers for $11500 (and then have the jeweler swap out the black dial for a white dial). Is that worth the extra $$?

That price for an '05 is a bit high too; it's only a year or 2 newer than the Y model........ You should be able to find a brand new one in a Dealer at MSRP with a bit of legwork.....

Both are authentic - the Y series is available through a jeweler friend of ours. I wanted to purchase a newer model one, but haven't been able to find a brand new one anywhere (if they have them they won't release them w/o a substantial additional purchase).
In short, if there is not a big difference in the look/style/manufacturing, I'm OK with the Y series I think. I'm trying to avoid going thru ebay to purchase this. Too many crooks out there. |

I think 8,000usd would be a very good price... If the jeweler can provide a recent service paper or some sort of in-house warranty then 8,500usd would also be ok with me.
If you can get closer to the 9k here in TRF you should be able to find a newer full set Daytona.

If you can talk him down to $8000 that would be great
By the way, FYI: the Y series have the thin/skinny hands. Those were made for only 3 years, from 2000 to 2003( early F series ).

The Price is ok for a Daytona they still hold well...but for another $1400 you can get a compete like new 2009- 2010 ...if the funds are not an issue check on the for sale and you can find few good sellers like David, Oscar and Greg...
Good luck
