buffing

how much can a watch be buffed out? if it doesn't have any significant scratches can it be made to look new again? the reason i ask is there is i am interested in purchasing a sub that is just a year old and has standard everyday wear marks and am curious if i could have the swirls and whatnot buffed out? thanks

Of course, buffing can be carried out by any qualified watchmaker with the right tools - no big deal.

But you must bear in mind that each time any metal is buffed, there is always a minute amount of metal loss - more so with the softer GOLD metal.

So maybe it's not such a good idea to do it too often. If it's a first time purchase and you'd prefer the watch in pristine condition, then that's understandable; but not on a regular basis.

thanks for the info. i more or less want to get a 16610 but dont see paying the premium at the ad but also dont want to wear a watch that looks like it has been worn for a year - unless it was i who wore it for a year. so would like to get it looking pristine before showing it off.

Just think when you look at someone wearing a Rolex... They always look threir best and I am sure most of them have regular scratches.. From a practical point of view no one will notice the scratches in a 1 year sub...
