Crown on Submariner not close to watch

I was wondering if I could get a question answered here by the very knowledgable people you all seem to be. I don't know if it is my imagination, or if there is something wrong with my submariner, but when the crown is screwed in tight, it doesn't appear to fit snug against the watch. It is almost as if there is a small space between the two. I am worried the watch may not be water/pressure proof. I have had the watch for a while and never noticed this before.

There is a gasket inside the crown and another on the threads and another in the case tube...

There is always a bit of a gap.

When it is completely snug to the case i.e. compressed crown gasket, you need new gaskets.

(seriously...it is perfectly normal)

X2 And if it fits flush against the case you have damaged the crown gasket or its badly worn and needs replacing.

Correct.........

The crown does not seal against the case........... it seals against the top of the tube - there must be clearance between the bottom of the crown and the top of the case to achieve this...

I really appreciate the responses. I was getting worried, as I said, I have had the watch for a while and never noticed this before, until I went to change the date today. Thanks again for easing my mind.

i think even the twinlock crown is like this in so far as the crown never actually buts up against the case but rather rests on the gasket.

Thats correct now the first introduction of the twin lock waterproof screw down crown system by Rolex. Was from a Swiss Patent by Paul Perregaux and Georges Peret,a Swiss patent they took out first in 1925 Then Hans Wilsdorf from the RWC quickly negotiated to have the Perregaux and Peret patent assigned to him and the RWC. Wilsdorf then obtained a British patent on October 18 1926, shortly after the Rolex Oyster was first born.

Paul Perregaux patent screwed stem system 1925,which Hans Wilsdorf of Rolex aquirerd,to make the first oyster cased Rolex.
