May have the chance to finally pick up a GMT Master!
My parents have decided that I am allowed to use the money that I have saved up in the bank for whatever I want, but it has to have value and it has to be a good purchase. Together, I think I have enough to cover the cost of a nice vintage, but I love the modern ones too. This is the last main purchase I will have for a long time, so I will have to take the time out to find my perfect GMT. I can't tell you how excited I am, I am leaning towards a 1675, 16750 or maybe a 16710.

Congrats! My vote would be for a 16760 if you can find one with the original coke bezel.

Hi Kyle!! That´s good news, and I wish you will be making your dream come true very soon.
I´s nice your parents understand your passion for fine time pieces, and share with them the planning and purchase of your watch. As you may have read in my previous post, a little more than a month ago I had the opportunity of buying a brand new 16710 which was sitting for a long time in an AD counter, and this way I got the Pepsi GMT I was looking for. Vintage is another nice approach. I hope you´ll be showing us your new addition to your growing collection, and your usual great photography. Best cordial regards, Abel

My issue in the hunt for a new GMT is actually finding a vintage (even an older 16710)! The sellers on TRF are just WAY too good at selling mint! Good luck in your search! (I personally like the 16710 because I've never been a HUGE vintage guy)

Yeah, I know what you mean. Are you in NYC too? I'm going to go try looking in local places as well. You should take a look at timezone.

NYC has good local places, but I'm staying clear of most of the AD's, a few might have a returned 16710, but they'll most likely overprice it! Thanks for the TZ recommendation though! |

As you probably know, i too bought a 16710 a few weeks ago, a Pepsi F Series Dec 04 but was virtually brand new as the stickers were still on it. I prefer the GMT Master II but i think the nicest dial is on the 16750 as it looks like the maxi dial. My father in law has the new GMT IIc but i dont think the green on the hand and the writing looks as good as the older GMTs. You will have as much fun trying to find the watch you want as you will buying it. I am sure Kyle you will let us know which one you get eventually and by the way you have wise parents. Take care bud !

Good for you Kyle.
For what it's worth I would center my search around a nice 16750 matt dial version. All the advantages of a modern fast beat movement and quick-set date feature with the charm of the vintage acryllic crystal. Good luck. |

Thanks Mike, just have one question. I've seen some GMTS with replacement service dials, does this lower the value? I'd like to find one with an original dial and with some patina.

Woohoo! I'm stoked for you, bro!
BTW, I don't know why, but the 16750s I've seen seem to be more likely to have oxidation on the hands than the 1675 and the later 16700. FWIW, I were to do it again, I would get the 16750 over the 16710. Something great about the flatter profile, plexi crystal, and the wider bezel insert that sets the watch off.

Here's a close up of mine, Note also the hand stack on the 16750 is different than on the 1675. |

Great stuff Kyle. You must be stoked! I am learning all about this watch and am hoping to pick one up myself. 16710..
Good luck and enjoy the hunt. You're so in the right place to find the watch you want and get some great advice. This will probably be one you'll be looking at for many years

Kyle use the weakest (softest) market ever in vintage Rolex's to find a nice watch. If I where you I would buy the nicest 1 that comes around for the money you have to spend. If its a 1675 its a 1675 if its a 16750 than its a 16750.If you are not looking for a certain 1 im sure a very nice watch will surface. There are more than a few dealers and collectors in your LOCAL area that might even have a watch for sale.Good luck and dont rush.
Here is a picture of mine I bought new on my birthday around your age a long time ago.

Kyle, I'm impressed with your passion and the fact that you are buying your GMT with money YOU saved...and not simply nagging your folks to buy it for you. There will be a whole host of lessons for you when you do it this way. You will also feel a huge sense of pride when you have accomplished your goal. Enjoy the journey, and please post some flicks!

For both mine and Kyle's sake, (New York WIS's unite!) can anybody recommend any antique shops in NYC that deal in watches?
