Newbie help request - Quickset or not?
First off, thanks to the board. I had asked if I should get a Ulysse Nardin or SS DJ and I am going with the DJ. I will be buying a used one in excellent condition.
That said, I have 2 options which are identical looking (white face, roman dial, etc) but one is a Quickset and the other is not. My questions for you 1) Is the quickset feature important? Or just another "nice to have but not a must" 2) The DJ Quickset is $2000 and the same looking DJ, no quickset, is $1700 -- which would you pick and why. This will be my first Rolex, and I hope to wear it or have it for at least 5-10 years and then will be re-selling it to upgrade. So resale value does matter to me. Thanks again to everyone for the help! |

I'd go for Quick Set.
Boom and you are done. Can you imagine this scenario - today is the 10th and it shows 9th on the non quick set. You'd have to wind a good 29/30 days to catch up that one day. |

To me, this would depend on the condition of the watch and how new the quickset model is...
If we're talking a decade between the watches, I would take the newer one.. If they are in the same era, condition is the driver.. This is, of course, if I was wearing it all/most of the time and then a quickset wouldn't be such a big deal. If I only wore it ocassionally, then it is a bit of a pain to change the date if you have to go more than a few days with a non-quickset.........

Both are from 1990 (same year). Condition is nearly identical. So basically, is it worth paying the extra 15% ($250 on a $1750 model) to get the Quickset?
And for resale value down the road, do you think buyers would avoid a non quickset model or is that not a big deal to most? |

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I would have never caught this. And it turns out that the seller advertised them as both 1990 thinking I would know nothing but when I asked for the serial numbers the serial of the non quickset dates to 1968. I emailed the seller back this info and his reply was "well I wasnt being exact with the year" --- unreal! Thank you so much Larry, you saved me.

GMT Kid - you're right. I refuse to buy anything without asking this forum first, TRF members are the best --- lots of knowledge, generous with their time. Thank you again!
