PAM in titanium?
The 177 strikes me as a nice watch, but, if you were to own only one PAM, should it be a polished steel or brushed steel case PAM? Should a 111 be the priority over the 177?
Or, is this just a matter of personal taste? Thanks.... |

I own both the steel finsh is a shiny finish like a very shiny finish but then the titanium is like a flat finish a very flat finish, just depends on what you want and prefer.

that's just the matter of personal taste.
keep in mind, titanium is a softer metal than steel, it will get marks and dings easier. though surface titanium will get oxidized and the light scratch will seems to "heal" after some times, but the deeper scratch or dings won't. i personally perfer brushed steel, cause that's the easier finish to do a DYI refinish. 177 vs 111 are two different metals and different finish. 177 is in brushed titanium, which "hide" light scratches better, lighter in weight, softer metal, non-allegetic, it feels warmer on a cold morning 111 is polished stainless steel, heavier, its a harder metal but the finish will show every scratch (when the light hits at the right angle). |

Thanks very much for your responses.....
That's very useful info on the titanium. I thought maybe titanium would be *more* scratch resistant, so, thanks for the head's up.....I actually was looking for an alterntive to the all-polished steel case, because I think it would stress me too much, scratch-wise. Off the top of your head, would there be a PAM you would recommend with a sandwich dial and brushed steel case that's similar to the 111/177? I guess the 164 or 312? But, they are both with automatic movements and date functions, so, I'm guessing the cost is higher.... On closer inspection, the 164 seems to have a painted dial? |

maybe PAM 233? that's with an in-house 8 days GMT movement with date and 1950 case, and a much more dome crystal. if you don't like the price of a 312, then you probably won't enjoy the price of a 233 either :p
164 does have a painted dial. keep in mind that 312 also have a 1950 case instead of a Luminor case (i.e. 111, 177, 164) and 312 has an in-house 3 days auto movement with date. its quite popular cause its brings the in-house movement to a more "affordable" price level, has the nice 1950 case, sandwitch dial, the "9" and date without cyclops |

It's just up to you. I prefer the weight of SS though...

Personally I can't get on with Ti - too light, soft, don't like the colour, can be difficult to refinish, etc.
164 has brushed SS case but is not sandwich dial. I'd be looking at 312/320 but quite a price jump (~$2k) from 111. Cheers

Thanks all for the comments and efforts to educate me.....I've noticed how passionate the PAM fans are on this board, and it is contagious.
