PAM 111 accuracy
Hello all.
Newbie here so apologies for an obvious question; what is the opinion of members of the accuracy of the 111? I am just about to jump in an make my first purchase, almost certainly a 111. Dont know why but just love them. Found this messge board and now realised its a time killer, cannot stop reading about these watches. Do they become an obsession? (i have a sneaking suspicion its already too late for me ). Thanks in advance. |

Welcome to TRF
The movement is COSC, so it should be within the -4/+6 spec range. The Panerai OP XI calibre is essentially a reworked ETA Unitas 6497 Movement: hand-wound mechanical, Panerai OP XI calibre with swan's neck regulator, 16½ lignes, 17 jewels, Côtes de Genève decoration on the bridges. Glucydur® balance with Nivarox® I spring, 21,600 alternations/hour. Incabloc® anti-shock device. Power reserve 56 hours. Chronometer Certificate (C.O.S.C.). Functions: hours, minutes, small seconds. Cheers

It is COSC, so don't worry. 6497 is also one of the best movements out there. I don't care what anyone says.

Agreed - rugged, accurate, easily maintained, and you can do a zillion things with it as a base (& its sister 6498) To the OP: Mike (our friendly Mod) had his 111 regulated and I believe it runs pretty much dead on. Cheers

Most important part of negotiations still to be done, as my Missus knows the dealer I have to get him to keep his mouth closed (or tell her it cost 200 quid as she knows nothing about them) or this could prove a very very expensive watch

So a quick word of warning members, if anyone passses an AD in Slovakia that has a handwritten price in the window of 200 euros on a PAM 111 dont go in and try and buy it, it may only be there for effect for the five minutes when I walk my good lady past the shop window!!

i didn't bother to "measure" the accurcy of my 111, because:
(1) the movement is non-hacking (the second hand won't stop when you pull the crown out), that means i didn't have to sync it to the atomic clock within the second; (2) the dial doesn't have minute marks on it, so 12:01:00 and 12:01:30 looks almost the same to me anyway; (3) the movement is COSC certified, so as long as it running within spec (-4/+6 per day), i am fine with it. after about 2 weeks of wear, the deviation from the atomic clock seems to be within the minute (when the atomic clock said 12:04, my 111 said its 12:04, don't care about the seconds). the second hand to me is just an running indicator telling me the watch is still running. and all these actually makes me less obsessed with having the second hand sync to the atomic clock. |
