Advise from forum about paypal
I lost by accepting pay pal big time before so I am always reluctant to accept it again.A forum member with under 100 posts has inquired about a watch of mine for sale and after a long phone conversation agreed to buy the watch if I take pay pal.I told him to pm his email address so I can send him an invoice through pay pal and he agreed. After the conversation I receive a few texts that he wants to use 2 pay pal accounts 1 US based another Taiwan based to split the charges. The Taiwan based card has an international address and cant be added to the US account.I responded with if he can do it with the 1 that has the address it would be shipped to for both our safety. His response was that both are verified and I am not trying to scam you just trying to split my charges to 2 different accounts and that if I don't trust him we don't have to proceed.I told him I never mentioned not trusting him or that he was a scammer just wanted to follow pay pal policy.I never heard back from him. Advise from the pay pal gang here. Is this a typical deal when someone wants to pay with pay pal?
Thanks

Bullshit
That's just plain bullshit.
Why not wire transfer? Saves a lot of money and makes it safe for both. Would not ever proceed with something like that. Jack |

Those were my exact thoughts but since its a forum member here I wanted the forums 2 cents. I didnt like the flow of events from a low ball offer a week ago to ill take it last night to the credit card paypal to the if you dont trust me we dont have to proceed.I always respect people and give them the benifit of doubt but wanted to see what others would have done.

dont do it, if you split the payment and only ship one watch, you're going to lose the other payment when they claim they didn't receive anything.

He said he had 2 credit cards and 2 pay pal accounts 1 US and 1 International and wanted to split the credit card charges between both cards is what I gathered. There was no deal.

Its a scam, if he really wants the watch , he could always transfer funds between two paypal accounts and send the money from one account.

I would stay away from this...especially since he was the first to mention a scam. I would also have a Mod look into this guy since he is a member and see what kind of activity he is really into.

You can have more than one credit card on a single paypal account, why can't he put them both on the US account and do two transactions using a different card each time?

Playing devils advocate for a second.. If you transfer funds from one paypal account to another so to send in one go, he would have to pay fees.
I like to use my paypal account because I sell on ebay and its easier to pay using that, than transfer money out to bank account and then transfer again. Personally I hate PayPal. There is no protection for purchases (outside ebay) and their fees are ridiculous, when there is a problem they never seem to give support to the seller, always seem to side with the purchaser. I agree with the people here though, if it smells fishy, then walk away. Its just not worth the risk. If you have a good rapport with the purchaser/seller then the method of payment can be discussed. All payment methods are subject to risks on both sides..

I have two PayPal accounts, one that is Canadian (from before I relocated) and one is registered in Hong Kong. Both are verified to my home addresses and credit cards in each country. I have never tried paying for an item by splitting between the two accounts.
Devil's advocate again - perhaps the buyer has PayPal funds he wants to get rid of in one account, which would not cover the cost of the entire transaction, and would top up the rest with the other account. Regardless, I think you can still accept payment from both accounts until you have the full payment, wait for all the funds to clear your 'bank account' and then ship out.

I would pass on this sale. If he can't wire transfer the money first - don't send him the watch. Too many legitimate buyers in the world to have to take a chance with this guy.

Serious buyers buy seriously w/no BS
I've never sold a watch on any forum (or at all for that matter as of yet...but who knows) but I've purchased plenty as a couple of respected forum sellers and sponsors can attest to, and in my experience if someone is serious about buying they will take serious steps to do so. I always pay with a wire - it costs as little as $25, it's fast and saves a lot of time and BS for all involved. If you're paying $3k, $5k $10k, etc. for a watch and you're worried about a few extra bucks then you should reconsider the purchase - there are plenty of buyers who provide easy, no BS conditions to purchase. You're better off just waiting for someone like that, wondering if they're going to love the watch you're selling them than wondering if you're about to get screwed!

Sounds like a scam. Anytime anything doesn't sound right, I "kill" the deal when I sell. Better safe than sorry.
