New Sub vs. Old Sub
Rolex has redefined the Sub through its classic process of refinement. We have all known that this day was coming. The other Subs were our 'writing on the wall'...
For me personally, it took about a year for my eye to adjust to the new proportions - larger case/lugs, etc. For others, it may take longer or shorter. I think over time all will agree that Rolex has redefined the Sub without it losing its true meaning/identity as a Sub. If anything... the Sub with larger case/lugs is closer to the true concept of an actual Sub. Rolex's definition of a Sub has more depth now. (Pardon the pun) Also of importance to consider... The lines of the new case are larger and more angular. According to the laws of classic design... large/angular = masculine Another law of classic design... shiny/glossy = feminine I think the reason Rolex opted for the larger more angular case is because their hand was forced by the shiny/glossy look of the new ceramic bezel. They had to offset this more feminine touch with a masculine feature. Solution: larger more angular and masculine case/lugs.... thus, keeping a harmonious classic balance. If I am wrong... then ask yourself if you can find a men's Rolex with ceramic bezel that doesn't have a more angular/larger case. with masculinity, jason |
