Pre-owned Rolex with warranty not filled
Hi Rolexers,
I'm a newbie and would like to know what it means when a seller say the warranty card is not filled? Does that mean that the warranty is still applicable after I buy it? If the warranty card is filled already, is it void after I buy it? Thank you.

As long as it has the AD stamp, you are fine. Some times AD's don't put the name of original purchaser on the card or the date, you can just fill in your info and you are good. Sometimes a seller may call this a "open" warranty card.
It is Rolex policy that the AD completly fill out the info but it appears that sometimes they "forget".

They may or may not honor warranty service.

In 90% of the times if your name is not on the warranty from the AD you don't have warranty...The Rolex Warranty is NOT transferable and if it's not filled and registered with Rolex from the AD it was bought at...consider it with no warranty but that's not a bad thing as long as you know that you don't have warranty...

Tony, is that actually the policy? I was under the impression that ADs only reported watches sold by serial number to Rolex but not the purchaser information. There is a recent new policy whereby Rolex is collecting the ownership data on watches that come in for service. Back to new sales, how could one purchase a watch to give as a gift? It would not have the proper owner's name at the AD, are you sure that the person who received it has no warranty? Perhaps your contacts at BB can clarify.

I just learned From Tim AKA Train-Time that now Rolex USA is like the rest of the world and now the warranty goes to the Serial and not to the owner...
That is how it is in Europe and the rest of the world... So I guess now that applies to Rolex USA.

That's right Tony... I've been informed of this on numerous occasions so must be true...

Yep, no problem transferring warranty in Aus - I have spoken directly with Rolex Australia about this in the past. Their advice was to write a letter for the buyer, stating particulars of the sale and the serial numbers(s) in question. Have done this (as a seller) a couple of times.
Cheers

OK thanks guys for the info! so the warranty is transferrable.
But perhaps I need to make sure that there is AD stamp in there. Otherwise it may be a fake warranty card :D This forum is amazing, so many guys with wealth of information.

So I think my AD forgot to completely fill my card. No date and no buyer name. Their name is on it.
Should I... ... Have them fill it out? ... Should I fill it out when I have a warranty issue so as to "prolong" the period? Does Rolex USA know when a watch was purchased from an AD?

Make sure the AD has their name(stamp) on the card. If they leave yours/date blank, then great. If you have problems, you can easily put your name on the warranty and put the original purchase date on iot at that time. If you sell it befoe rthe warranty expires, tell the new owner the original date of purchase abd let him/her fill it out of they want.

So you cannot alter purchase date to prolong warranty? I thought I read that someone did this...

I thought when someone bought a Rolex from AD, their name and date is registered in Rolex?
If that's the case, then warranty starts from the day that watch is bought from AD, it cannot be changed although you change it on the warranty card? Not sure..
