Why do you...

like to wear your watch?

Is it because it's expensive? Or do you like the looks of your watch?

I know many people who wears Rolex, just do it because it's expensive.

I wish they were not expensive!! I wear them because I like them--could care les if anyone sees them on my wrist except me! To me--it is like art--except I can enjoy it while nobody else has any idea.

I wear Rolex cause it is a quality timepiece. I don't want to knock other swiss watch brands, but I've owned several that have seemed to become more quantity than quality. While Rolex has gotten bigger, they still sell a very high-quality piece. If serviced regularly, it is one of the few watches that could last your entire life.

I wear a Rolex because I appreciate the quest for mechanical perfection, so perfect yet with a little imperfection..

I like my Rolex but I rarely wear it . I like to see Rolex watches on other people wrist rather than mine.
And it may be me,but in my life I've never EVER met a nice, polite, low key and unpretentious Rolex wearer. So I keep mine in the safe and enjoy those jerks bragging about their watches and how much they paid for it,because you know...a 5K Euro watch is big money you know ?? I have a Rolex,I have big cash !!!! LOL...

Almost 40 years ago as an 8 year old boy, on a rainy day standing in front of our local AD, my Dad told me they were the best watches in the world......I believed him......I went back and bought one when I was 23, I have worn nothing else since*, my watches have never let me down and I have put some of them through hell......very good advice from my old man as far as I am concerned.....

* I recently bought a Tudor Chrono....it is the only other watch brand I own....I have to admit I am just as impressed with it.....but then again it comes from the same stable I suppose

Wristwatches are like little mechanical pieces of art to me. I spend almost as much time admiring the watch off my wrist as I do when it's on the wrist.

I wear my watches for the looks and because I know I have a piece of history strapped to my wrist. I'd still wear any of my watches if they cost less than $10!

I just wanted a luxury watch to go with all my cheap watches and got lucky and went to the Rolex AD before I went to look at the Omegas and other brands.

I fell in love with the Explorer as soon as I looked at it on my wrist and I've had not one moments regret since I walked out the same day with it on my wrist.

I really always thought Rolex was mostly branding and marketing, but now I fully understand why Rolex is, well, Rolex.

They are the king of watches and i have always wanted one. In fact, since i bought my explorer II i dont think anyone has noticed it! Not that i care because its for me! Watches are my hobby and i will continue to add more and more... bury them with me when i die.

Due to marketing, Rolex reigns supreme as far as luxury watches go. Its more for image I suppose...wheres the fun in owning a expensive watch when no one knows what it is? There are also so many losers that wear fake ones and I can always tell. The person who wears is more counterfeit than the watch. It makes me feel smug inside knowing I have a REAL Rolex when so many people desire it to the point they degrade and fool themselves by wearing a fake one.

There is also the case that they are not all marketing, Rolex does indeed make great watches. Because their so well known people are fast to say they are over hyped. If that was entirely true how do you explain finding pre-used watches 30-40 years old still able to tell the time? People that critique or give opinions on Rolex's should first earn the right to do so. Its like smashing Ferrari by saying their not the fastest or best cars, but at the end of the day their faster than whatever your driving right? If I owned a Patek, Vacheron, Jaeger and several Rolex's then I have the right to come out and say "Rolex sucks" my statement has weight.

But to answer your question pal, I would have to say:
20% tell the time
50% Status symbol/ Veblen good/ Invidious Consumption or whatever.
30% looks. (IMO if you want good looking go look at those steam-punk $200,000 Pateks that shows all the gears in the dial or batman looking Zenith ZeroG) The Rolex is attractive but it is subtle and to really tickle my fancy you got to be outgoing.
Marketing also plays a big factor too. You can counter almost every criticism by saying "So? Its a Rolex".

I wear my Rolex because those who know, know it's expensive.

That, and it's a great mechanical timepiece, in a durable and yet beautiful case. I have worn it nearly every day, doing all sorts of activities (sports, swimming, etc.). Few other premium watches would have been as durable.

Because it's the only piece of jewelry acceptable for men to wear besides a wedding ring, and it tells time, and it looks cool!

I lterally feel naked without a watch. And I wear Rolex because I like the look, feel and versatility offered. Ironically, my SD is massively inaccurate - really need to send it in for a service soon. Doesn't help that I used to hand it to my then 1-year old son to play with. Now the cheap metal-stamped clasp won't close properly either. Like I said, it needs a service!
