Flipping watches...

First of all, I'm not sure that this is a Rolex related post, but it's definitely watch related, so sorry if I posted in the wrong section. Anyway, I've been thinking about investing some money in a watch and trying to flip it for a profit. I think it'd be a fun project especially since my dad has shown interest in helping, along with a way to make a little extra money if I'm lucky. I've seen a few (what look to be) pretty good deals on the internet that look tempting. So, since it seems like there are members on this forum that do this, any advice on how to get started? Or, is this a bad idea? Thanks.

The best way to make a million dollars from watches is to start with 2 million.

I'm not sure if flipping watches is the best way to make money, unless you pick some really rare pieces, maybe then the value will go up in the future but not for a quick flip. Unless you have a source that can give you really low prices, I don't how much you would really be able to make. Good luck though, sounds interesting.

Sad truth is kind of hard if you need to ask.

Bob, first of all what is your knowledge about watch? can you tell if a watch is authentic?...I would say that is the first place to start... educate yourself about watches...put some $$$ together and try to buy 2 or 3 watches and see how it goes...you will learn as you go.

Yeah that's sort of what I thought. It's probably just me trying to turn a hobby into a poor buisness venture.

I know a decent amount about rolex watches, not so much about any other brand. I thought that if I tried it I would start with one and if it went well try again and if not I'll have learned my lesson. The problem, which someone else stated, is that I don't have a source for an excellent deal.
