i would describe myself as a panerai guy, i own a 243, and have owned a 88 and 24. before that an omega. i joined TRF out of curiosity AND RESPECT FOR THE BRAND. i find myself very attracted to the sub no date and wonder if there are many PAM owners who also have Rolexs? no flames please i am a fan of both brands, just trying to hear from those who have both, the differences, how owning both happened? just collecting or if both brands are in a rotation? I am intentionally asking here in the PAM forum of TRF.

I own both brands, not collecting, both brands (and a few others :) ) are in rotation. Difference-wise, obviously, is in the size; the PAM has a more substantial wrist presence, simply by virtue of the fact that it is present on a much more substantial area of the wrist. :) I've seen several folks checking it out, and it's cool because I could tell that they didn't know what it was, but were definitely into the watch (used to get the same thing a lot with my Breitling, as I was wearing it before the brand was as widely known and adopted here as it is at present).

What else...it has better lume than the Rolexes, which isn't a factor in terms of viewing for me most of the time, but the green hue it imparts at times is pretty cool-looking. What I find most impressive is how versatile it is: it adapts perfectly to either the black croc for a more dressy look, or the rubber strap for a sportier, casual look, and it pulls both looks off flawlessly.

But comparing it to Rolex is to me an apple-orange thing to me as they're both quite different, which is fine with me, as wearing the same brand/style all of the time would get boring...I love all of my watches, and I buy them because they sing to me, I have no qualms about switching between brands. I kind of try to match them stylistically and color-wise to whatever I'm wearing, makes for a sharper look imo.

How owning both happened? I actually came across a Panerai at a local jeweler a few years back and was intrigued; I basically knew zip about the brand or its meteoric rise in popularity over the last decade or so, but I just liked it, the dial really appealed to me for some reason that I've never been able to put my finger on; there's just something about it that tickles my fancy. Just kind of put it off until the pull was just too strong to resist, and so here I am. And I'm a very happy camper, it's in very heavy rotation right now.

I'm the other way around - serial Rolex owner, but PAM-curious.

I don't see anything wrong with ownership of both brands. WISs find beauty in anything that ticks (sweeps

).

Wearing a 111 made me feel like it was so huge on my wrist since my point of reference is a 40mm oyster. I'm guessing you would feel the other way and find the Sub too small. But if your wrist is fine with the rotation, then all is good!

I found this forum during my sublv purchase...then boughtan expII shortly after joining,but just bought a Pam after seeing all the pics from owners here in the forum. Didn't really even know what Panerai was 6 months ago,but my 111 is a watch i'll never part with(much like my Rolex's)!!
I think alot of us on here own both if im not mistaken!

I tend to look at the brands as distant cousins. Early Pams used Rolex movements and both have a military heritage.

Certainly room for both for me.

I agree I find the watches complementary in style. They definitely attact two different types of fans, however, there's definitely a large overlap between the two camps.

I own a sub, a GMT IIc and a Pam 111.

I wear them all in rotation. They all have their times to wear. The 111 dresses up and down depending on the strap. For awhile I thought I was hooked on the big watches. But, I'd rather have a variety of watches and sizes.

I'm considering all sizes from the new 39mm Expy, 40mm Daytona, 42mm speedy, 45mm 210, etc and so on.

My thought is that Rolex isn't the end all be all, neither is Panerai, nor any other brand. Collecting them all and making choices and decisions is what is so enjoyable to me.

Have a PAM-251 & DSSD....could not think of a better combo!!!!! All bases covered!!!!! Metal bracelet on the DSSD and unlimited strap choices for the PAM;-)

Up until 3 months ago I wouldn't have worn a Pam, now I own three. I didn't think I'd like the large size after being used to the 38-40 mm range. Now I won't but another watch smaller than 40 mm and truely love rotating all my watches (currently 8) in a top secret rotation that only I understand

.

I love mixing up the sizes and brands of the various watches and the Pam's, with the numerous strap options, really lets you shake it up.

You can't go wrong with Rolex or Paneria, IMO.

I own many different brands, but Panerai and Rolex are the ones I have the most of at any given time. They are alike yet very different. Both watches have interesting history and devoted followings. However, they are very different in terms of wrist presence. I also like that everyone knows Rolex and just about noone (at least in the circles I run in) know Panerai.

i think lots of memebers has both panerai and Rolex, i got my panerai after i joined the forum, this forums had made me get lots of watches i did not had in the past,
the panerai is different, its BOLD

rolex is subtle and its elegance and comfort is shared only by owner and watch.

pam is loud and tough.

Nothing wrong with owning both PAMs and Rollies! They`re both great brands in their own ways. I own a 312k and a sub 16610.

But the thing is, if you are used to owning a Rolex, you might be used to buying the occasional $10 NATO strap, but if you own a PAM, you gotta get used to buying the occasional $200 custom strap

2 Rolexes and 2 PAMs for me. Find that they complement well:

- 88 for travel
- Milgauss for more formal
- 312 for everyday
- DSSD when I want to feel indestructable

I also have a 243. I actually started with Rolex, then got into Panerai. Both are awesome. The Deepsea is definitely a great counterpart to the 243! The No-date may feel a bit small, but is still a great piece if you can get used to the size differences.
