Weird clicking noise. HELP

Hi All,

So I don't know if I just damaged my 16610.

The other morning I woke up and realized that my 16610 had stopped running. This was expected as I had not worn it in two days. It was pretty early in the morning so I wasn't thinking very clearly. I gave it a shake to start it up! I read somewhere that that's not such a good idea. It gets worse.

When I was adjusting the time, I noticed that when I unscrewed the crown and pulled it, I noticed that something didn't feel right. I felt like it was somewhere between the two positions so I pushed it back in and tried again. I eventually got it so that I could adjust the time and it felt normal. I tried adjusting the date and noticed that the dates didn't "click" through the numbers as fast as I remembered.

My main concern--when I shake my watch gently and listen carefully, I CAN HEAR A CLICKING NOISE! I don't remember hearing this in the past and I'm afraid that I damaged my watch that morning. I removed the bracelet and can still hear it.

I'm pretty bummed. I wasn't planning on getting it serviced in the next year or two and I don't really have the expendable income right now. It's still keeping good time (+1/2 sec per day) but I'm concerned that if I hold off getting it serviced, I'm going to pay more in the long run.

Somebody help me!

Thanks.

IMO you should never shake a stopped Rolex watch to start it just give it a full manual wind around 40 full turns clockwise, thats what the crown is for.Perhaps the clicking noise is just the winding rotor pendulum just trying to wind your stopped watch.I would doubt if you have harmed your watch in any way, just give it a full manual wind and wear as normal.Keep a check on watch for a few days if all is well no problem how old is watch if over 5-6 years old them its time for a service.

Still concerned/paranoid about watch health

Thanks for the response padi. Unfortunately I hear the noise when it's already wound. Hope the repairs don't exceed 600 dollars.

Bah. Almost every Rolex in every AD's display case is repeatedly re-started that way, whether intentionally or not, whenever a customer asks to see it. What makes it not such a good idea is that it doesn't impart much of a wind.

You may need a service, but it's not your fault.
