Hidious Daytona / sub mongrel
Just flicking through a uk newspaper when I came across an advert for this pile of sh1t.
http://www.toywatchwatches.co.uk/men...h-fld09ps.html The have just ripped off the sub & daytona classic design. Another rip off by this company. How can they do this ? They charge a fortune for these. May be the cinese will rip the off with a £10 copy |

They have not done anything wrong. Look at invicta foe example. Same deal. Not everyone enjoys spending a ton of dough on a watch but they may like the style. Just as long as the company does not infringe upon any of Rolexes copyrighted or trademarked items they haven't done anything wrong. Immitation is a form of flattery.

Utterly disgusting. I though TW revelled in the fact they made silly plastic fashion watches?
The only reasonable response upon seeing one of these aberrations is to immediately punch the wearer in the face!! |

I agree with your sentiments [if one were to apply the other logic further, then Seiko divers could be accused of ripping off the Sub].
On the other hand, the TW the OP has posted are getting close to being pretty blatant knock offs! Quote:

Surely rolex must have some for of design protection or image protection.
Maybe the don't know the LV is being so badly copied. Rolex defend there image strongly against counterfits why not these overpriced pieces of plastic shit. Bet the cost less tha £5 to manufacture in china. |

Too bad your definition of reasonable response is so terribly flawed. There is no copyright infringement as long as the watch does not have any Rolex markings and does not present itself as a Rolex watch. Several manufacturers "clone" Rolex watch designs. Alpha, Invicta, Steinhart, Orient, and others all make watches that look very similar to and were obviously inspired by Rolex designs. The original Rolex sub from 1953 was very reminiscent of the earlier released Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. Using your rules of engagement I suppose any owner of an original FF would be advised to punch anyone they find wearing a Rolex sub.

Legally, I'm sure Toywatch got it covered. Ethically, they probably just don't care... but then again - they have a date on the "Daytona", and they have cheerful colours on the subs.. and they're on a whole different level of target market anyway... :D
I wouldn't be bothered... |
