Trading up my 312 for 233?
Hi guys, here the situation..
An AD has a MINT USED condition of a PAM 233 (8 days), i Series, comes with Box and Papers for sale. I could trade up my L series 312 (3 days), with box and papers also in MINT condition, and add up around 3700 USD. Or I could also offer my 312 and my Bell n Ross BLU (Limited Edition 46mm), and go for a rollover for the 233... But that would mean 2 watches for 1... Is it worthed? Should I do it? What do you guys think? Btw, the 233 has been there for a while now, they even lowered the price since I first saw it by about 400 USD. |

I would keep the 312 - prefer the cleaner look/lack of fang and can take or leave the dome. But if the 233 is singing your song...
Cheers

keep the 312!! ok, maybe i'm biased...! i prefer the cleaner look, and it seems that many of the 233 models have issues with the movement...

I'd stick with the 312 myself. It just depends how much the 233 screams and yells at you though...

I traded my 312 for a 233 and couldn't be happier. :)

all up to you..but at 3700usd is a bit much... a little less than 3kusd maybe... they have been dropping in value lately...

Just to feed my curiosity - why are the 233s dropping value as of late? So below 3k would be reasonable?

It's my understanding that the 233 goes in and out of popularity. Prices often reflect this trend. It's a nice watch though...

I'd trade in a heartbeat! I own both and while the 312 is nice the 233 is far nicer. If you compare 2010 MSRP the 233 is almost twice as much. 14,700 compared to 7,400 for the 312. $3700 difference seems almost too good to be true even if you compare preowned prices you are getting a fantastic deal.

The 312 is a stunner, but the 233 is a whole nuther animal--and it's a GMT.

the 233 has been hovering in the hight $8k and low $9k for a few month...I think this is due to the pending release of the new watches from SIHH..and people are selling their pieces to fund new one...good time for you!

I'm still thinking about it - but I do feel the 312 is cleaner... The GMT feature isn't something I need/use, so I can live without it... the dial and the 8 days reserve is the one that intrigues me. :)

I have a 312, and I'm a huge fan. The 233 is a bit more special though IMO. It's got a, horologically-speaking, more impressive movement, a nicely domed crystal (which works so well with the 1950 case), and a nicely-executed GMT complication. In addition, it is my impression that the 233 gets a whole lot more respect among the Paneristi set than the 312. All that said, I think the 312 delivers in spades for a watch priced significantly less than the 233. It's incredibly clean, and manages the seconds subdial, the "9" on the dial, and a cyclops-less date. It's extremely versatile, and can be dressed up and down depending on the strap. One drawback, however, is the thickness of the case. I think if you want bang for the buck, the 312, 351, and 359 are Panerai's best offerings in the Luminor range. If you can spend a bit more, the 233 is a stunning piece.
