Tight or loose bracelet?

This is a question that might have more than one answer, but in my particular case I want to know, how can you preserve a bracelet in top shape for the longest time?

Apart from individual tastes and preferences, is it better to leave it loose, tight or at the same diameter of the wrist (consider expansion or shrinkage of the wrist).

The RSC told me that slightly tighter (but of course not too tight) is better, because this reduces the amount of movement and therefore wear that the bracelet is subjected to.

But I like mine to be quite loose...

Cheers

I wear it so that I can insert by index finger between the wrist and the bracelet.

I like mine tight and snug, but not cutting off circulation or anything of course.

Close to being snug....as long as it doesn't impede the circulation.

I have the bracelet of my gmtiic in the safe and I use a croc leather strap instead for the daily use. Keeps the bracelet nice and scratch free...I put it on whenever I need it.

Try not to be so concerned about future bracelet wear, but what feels comfortable on your wrist. The modern oyster bracelet will give many years of serviceable wear even under vigorous use.

here in the tropics

here in the deep tropics it's difficult to adjust the bracelets as wrists swell up significantly when outside in the heat, then slim down when in an airconditioned indoor setting. i have heard that dirt will act as an abrasive and accelerate wear. i also heard that wearing them on the tighter side will help reduce movement and wear and i believe it to be true, but i can't seem to be comfy with the things tight. i also like to wear them loose enuf so when indoors and cool, i can slide a finger between the clasp and my wrist. this seems to be about the best adjustment setting as when outside i can still tolerate the tighter fit. janice always collects and wears only full-size men's watches and wears them extremely loose. i will say that i have not seen any of our watches' bracelets loosen up over the years, but being watch freaks we do keep them clean, and rotate and not wear the same watches every day.

I wear it just right for my comfort. Pretty much like JJ said, just enough to sneak my index finger under it.

The best location for the watch and bracelet to rest is just proximal to the bony prominence of the ulna bone called styloid process. This way, if you extend your wrist, it won't put a significant force to stretch the bracelet.

When the watch is sitting at the wrist joint and you extend your wrist, it stretches the bracelet faster than any other process.

Prepare yourself for a lot of guesses.

The bracelets "stretch" by abrasion (not elastic deformation), and it takes a long time to become noticeable. Intuitively it seems that never cleaning the bracelet (so it's full of abrasive grit) and wearing it tight enough to put load on the joints but not so tight as to immobilize them entirely would result in maximum wear. But this is conjecture.

My old original bracelet on a Sub 1680 lasted 40 years. How long do you want it to last?

Greg
Wear it so it's comfortable, and worry later.

I keep mine snug.

Friction, coupled with dirt and grime on your bracelet will accelerate wear and bracelet 'stretch'.

Hope his helps.

Bracelet Tightness

I just acquired the Deep Sea about a week ago and i wear it like i do all other bracelet watches that i have owned in the past. On the tighter side as i dont like it when the case moves around. You can see a spot between the bracelet and my wrist but could not get a finger throught it. It has been very hot in new england the last few days so i have been adusting the glidelock but i always end up with it fitting tight but not uncomfortable or hurting my wrist and leaving marks.
