TT Sub or GMT IIC ?
I have a GMT IIc but have always been a fan of ss/18k watches. I really want a tt sub but every dealer says "don't get rid of the gmt". I'm just not a fan of it on me for some crazy reason. In fact, I like the explorer II white face better. Not only for the price point but also for the low profile. So, my survey/question is: Do I sell the GMT for a tt sub, and what are the +/- of each? You guys are the pro's so I'm trusting your opinions.
At this point I can't have both the gmt and a sub, so it's one or the other. thanks |

Personally I'd love a TT Sub' but if you like the 'stealth factor' of the Explorer II I'm not sure a TT Sub' follows the same logic?
GMTIIc seems the perfect compromise in theory at least anyway...?!

GMT is nice to have in your collection but if you're "not a fan of it", no point
in keeping it no matter what others say.

I'm having trouble figuring out why anyone would buy a GMT IIc unless they needed the ability to track two time zones. I use that feature every day. I'm more interested in function than anything else. If you don't use the features of the GMT get rid of it!

Surely that's a bit like asking "why buy a Submariner if you don't go diving?" or "Why buy an Explorer II if you don't go caving?"..... ??

I would go for the Sub. I agree that the GMT looks very nice; but somehow the 'cleaner' look/dial of the sub is, to me, beautiful!

I don't think there is enough difference between the GMT and the Sub to justify the massive hit you'll have to take to buy it. They're essentially the same in terms of feel, the cases are identical, and the difference in weight would be negligible. The only real distinction is the increased functionality of the GMT, or the better clasp on the Sub, as well as font differences on the bezel.
I don't know about you, but I'm not sure I would want to sacrifice potentially thousands of dollars over very small differences like that. Then again, I love both the GMT and the Sub, I could happily wear either. What exactly is it about the GMT that you don't like? EDIT: Sorry, I may have misread, is your GMT steel or TT? If it's steel, then my post is pretty much irrelevent |

x2. Totally! Just a great look, has more going on then the sub. The prices are soft for the used TT GMT II's so you could probably step up for around $1,500. Not bad considering the new price difference is $3K.
Re-reading your post, I take it back. Get the TT Sub if the GMT is not your cup of tea.

1ST and for most YOU HAVE TO ENJOY WHAT YOU WEAR, try on the SUB 1st if you haven't already, and then pull that trigger. I'm sure you know what you want this time, good luck.

It was originally developed for cave explorers who needed to keep track of day and night in the dark. It's not so easy with the current model, given the use of Super Luminova instead of Tritium, but the heritage is still there. The current Explorer II has pretty much evolved into a GMT-lite now
