Matching your Watch to your Clothing

OK just wanted to get everyone's take on this...maybe I over think things.

For better or for worse, and in danger of sounding like a chick.....I'm a stickler for matching my clothing with my accessories.

For example, today I'm wearing a Navy window pane suit, light blue shirt (french cuffs with my Rolex cufflinks), red and blue tie crisscross pattern tie, cordovan shoes and belt, with my submariner on a red/blue nato. I figure the suit's dark enough that with the cordovan leather I can get away with a black faced watch.

How do you guys usually match, especially with a leather strap?? Face to clothing, Band to clothing (like the PAM guys who have a black face and tan band).

I typically wear black face/strap with black accessories, and white or cream faces with brown straps (obviously if its on a bracelet only the face comes into play.)

Always good to match! I only use black leather strap with black shoes/belt. Ditto for brown leather. As for bracelets and rubber straps; with everything. And my DD: I don't care what other people think, it is a DD!!!!

In a word: Yes !

It means that you need a lot of watches, which is as good a justification as any.

As if...

Lighter face watches and more colorful watches with summer clothes. The Jaegar always with the suit on a leather. And the rest are strewn across semi-casual days.

If you have a watch that fits perfect for certain attire, why not?
Like my friend, Geraldo demonstates.

Very true guys....so what about Black face Brown strap combo's....I usually don't like mixing them, but I love the combo on a watch....would you say just casual wear??

If you have different coloured straps then you could have a problem.

But if you just wear your Rolex on its original bracelet, I see no problems matching up any Rolex with just about any attire.

So JJ, you'd go with the match the strap to your attire, as opposed to the face?? That's how I was leaning with my NATO's

Yes, I guess so, buddy. If you are into straps, then I suppose the strap colour should match up with your attire.

With an SS bracelet, anything goes!!

Who says accessorizing is just for women?

It's the perfect excuse to add another watch to the watchbox.

Attention to detail does not change your gender!

If you search the mens fashion sites, there will be two main tips:
  • Your leathers should match (belt, shoes, strap).
  • Your hardware should match (buckle, bracelet).

I first thought of your Bark fetish when I first read this thread.

Guess it would look great with acid-wash jeans?

Just kidding, Ceci!

I do, but more of the style of watch rather than colors/straps.

I won't wear my beater G-Shock with anything more formal than a button up shirt. Likewise, I won't wear my 2-tone vintage Air-King when I'm just hanging out in a friend's garage in ripped jeans and a sweatshirt catching up on old times.

Beyond that, it's pretty much whatever goes for me.

I think if you are wearing (mixing) black/brown straps on your watch, you better check you socks!

I do. Sometimes a certain color I'm wearing just doesn't go with the Pepsi so I wear the Sub. The Sub usually goes with everything but sometimes the Pepsi on jubilee just looks better.

I've been to pretty much every store but still haven't found gold shoes.

I found one store who carried them but they were 14 karat and looked like crap.
