Serials Question
I don't know a lot about Rolex production and I see here a lot of posts with the watch model and a letter serial. What does this mean? Is a certain letter better than another?
For example I have an Explorer I the serial starts with D and I have a Sea-Dweller with a starting serial letter of M. Is there any significance to the letters? Thank you all for any help. |

Basically most Rolex watches have changed very little since 1988,the letter series is only rough indication when the case was stamped. And not necessarily when a fully assembled watch was put together for sale and shipment to the ADs

Yes all new Rolex watches were issued with papers or the new credit card plastic type. But thats just a warranty certificated and not a real 100% sure indication that the watch is genuine when buying used, unless reliable dealer. The papers are not all that important in the modern day Rolex, but getting a genuine watch is. Only buy from trusted sources, when a watch is serviced by Rolex you are issued with service papers.

Look over in our Reference Library..
We explain what a serial number is, what it isn't, and that the "art" of actually dating a watch witn only the serial number is really a guessing game.. We also tell you about the clasp codes on your bracelet.... all useful material when researching any watch that doesn't come with provenance.......
