Weekend watch purchase?
I'm still debating whether to go to the larger YG Day-Date II instead of my current YG Day-Date. Both are great. Can I justify moving to the larger model? Can I justify not doing that since I've become very attracted to the DD II? Would it be the ultimate in wasteful spending to trade a DD for a DD II or have both a DD and a DD II? Just when I think I've settled on sticking with my DD, I see a DD II and it starts all over again.
I'm still lusting after a new 39 mm Explorer, but haven't seen one in a store yet. It would be a perfect complement to my DD or a DD II as it is so utterly different. And I really, really miss my SS GMT IIC. I'm trying to remember why I sold that watch! I am going into Tokyo tomorrow to shop around. This is the way I almost always end up buying a watch. My thoughts suddenly reach critical mass after much obsessive thinking about various watches and I suddenly just buy one. Of course, I also often choke and buy nothing, only to return home frustrated and ready to engage in more obsessive WIS-dom. I know one thing. I am ready for a new watch. |

Well Otto, if you can trade up for the DDII and still get the 39 EXP when it comes out, that's what I'd do! You'll fell better, I'll feel better, Hell, we'll all feel better!

You sum things up perfectly, I have often been in the same predicament! Best of luck, and don't go making any rash desisions, your DD is stunning.

Yes; I am kind of beating this DD/DDII decision to death; but my only defense is it is a big and expensive decision!

my 2 cents.... Keep the DD you have... it was expensive when you bought it.. why take a hit and buy yet another expensive watch? Buy the Explorer.

Otto, please take no offence, I was not chiding you, I fully appreciate your dilemma. I was trying to insert a bit of humor after a long humorless day.

I have lusted after a DD for a very long time and finally bought mine this year.(same as yours you might remember).
When the DDII came out I needed more time. After much comparing and hard thinking I choose the DD. Extremely happy with it and I am 100% sure I made the right decision. DDII is very nice but not enough a "Day-Date" kind of watch. Hard to explain but to me it is more sporty than elegant. And I wanted elegant as I have enough sporty looking watches. However, I can understand why you feel the way you do. Change is good ;-) One thing is for sure, sell your DD and you will come to regret it. So at least I would keep it.

Otto,
I love your classic Day Date! I vote for you waiting for the Explorer. Man, wish I could dash off to Tokyo and do some WISing at Jack Road with you. |

Another vote to keep your beautiful day-date & wait to get the new 39mm explorer....or if you don't want to wait, just get the old explorer...I like my 36mm explorer, not small for me.

Personally--I like the DD vs. DD ll. I was looking at a Platinum DD ll vs. the DD --glacier blue--and for me--the original size and dial just works far better--far cleaner and classier--just my opinion though--Go with what works for you!!!

Both nice watches - if the DD II suites your wrist AND you can afford it then go for that hands down :)

Hi Otto,
I say keep the current DD 'cause you will take a big hit on the resale. Besides, it's a fine looking dress watch. The DDII is a superb watch and I would buy one in the blink of an eye if I could afford it. Go with the DDII, but make sure you get a completely different dial from your current DD so you feel you have a new and different watch. Good luck - JJ

I personally prefer the DDII in terms of it's size, however the DDI is still a great watch - think on it for a while and see how both watches fit better on your wrist. :)

Burning your money would be wasteful, but spending it is just useful and much-appreciated redistribution. If you can afford it than you can honestly consider yourself a patron of an industry that you have an appreciation for.

You really have a nice problem here :-) to make it harder I say,
Sell the DD, do not buy the DDII and instead by the YG Blueface SubC, the best looking full YG watch IMHO, I do not find DD's that impressive, The DD is too small with only 36mm and the DDII is too big and look unpropotional to me but the SubC is perfect but off course not as dressy as DD's but If I am not wrong you have YG datonas aswell and they should cover your dressy needs :-) Like I said first, it is a pleasant problem... /masterkiller

Otto,
Why don't you buy a DSSD? That should satisfy your urge to try something new and completely different for a time while you try to make up your mind on the DJ II and 39mm Explorer. V/R, Mike |

I would say go to the DDII trading your DD and then buy the new Exp I.

Yea, Otto.
How about a new YG GMT ceramic? Both new GMT and DD in YG are stunning watches, and will look great in your nice collection. As far as trading your old DD in, I'd say keep it, you'll miss it. |

Otto,
Imho, I'd keep the beautiful DD you currently own and buy the new 39mm Explorer when available. Either way, best of luck on your decision. dP

I would wait and get the new 39 mm Explorer personally. I like the current Explorer but as big as I am I don't like the way it would look on me. I still don't understand why Rolex just didn't make the new Explorer 40 mm instead of 39mm. Isn't 40 mm almost standard now????
