Thoughts on Datejust 2 vs Turn-O-Graph

Hey guys, I guess once you become a watch addict, you're in it for a long time ...anyways, I wanted to add another watch in my Rolex collection (I currently only have one, a GMTIIc, wife is wearing LV, but I have an incoming SeaDweller from a trade) and I wanted to get a different looking Rolex. I'm currently looking at the new 41mm Datejust 2 with black dial with stick markers and a black dial turn-o-graph 36mm...which one is more classy looking? thanks.

I think the most classy looking dj would be the original 36mm size. The turn-o-graph is a very nice looking watch... i especially like the red second hand with roulette date dial. It a very striking combination.

If you like the DJ2... i would suggest looking at the rhodium dial... the lume on those numbers and hands are super nice.

My vote goes to the TOG.

Mine too. IMO a much better looking watch.

For bling, DJII. For classy, TOG, no doubt.

x2 although both with fluted bezels so the TOG will still have a slight bling element to it!

IMO, the TOG is the classiest of the two.

I think it depends what 'classy' means to you. It is personal,
and varies. I associate it more with classic styles than more
modern styles/sizing, so it would have to be the TOG

looks like TOGs with the red seconds hand and red date are about $5k in eBay....Since my watches are all somewhat similar looking, I wanted to get a different looking Rolex and the DJ2 and TOG looks like a good fit.

I'd vote DJ II, I've never been a fan of the TOG

I think it depends on the dial. The TOG is more sporty due to the rotating numbers bezel, the DJ2 is more classy and substantial IMO.

if 36mm works on your wrist, get the turnograph. datejust ii is a great concept, but i just found that bezel way too honking big flash on my wrist. if they made a smooth bezel datejust ii it would be close to perfect.

One of my favorites is an older TOG-- TT with a black face. It's a great balance of dressy and sporty in a traditional 36mm size that I think wears larger than the same DJ. That's no knock on the DJ's. I've got those, too.

Thanks guys for the insights, however, after trying on the TOG from my brother's friend, I realized that its kind of small than I used to...so I now narrowed my search between the DateJust II with black dial/white sticks and the non GV Milgauss...I'll open a new thread shortly...thanks!

Consider having a variety of sizes. My smallest is my Air King. My biggest is a Breitling Superocean Heritage, at about 46mm. I really like having totally different sized watches. It's part of the fun of having a collection. I don't see the need to decide on one "right" size. They're all good...(though there limits I suppose).

The proportions seem fine on my DJ2

Maybe someone needs to advise Rolex that they are off

IMHO, I cannot see what people see in the TOG. It looks dated, the number markings come off as cheap, and from a distance, looks like something you'd get out of those claw machines at the shore.

Just my .2

I agree, which is why I wouldn't necessarily see it as "classy". The classic is the DJ, and the DJII is its modern style.

The Turn-o-graph looks great, but is too small for me. I wish it was the size of the DJ II.

Now that I've seen the TOG in the flesh this afternoon, I realized it's not my thing... narrowed down my search between the DJ2 and Millie.....
