Should I Trade My No Date Sub for Another Oysterquartz?
I am considering trading my Sub for another #17013 Oysterquartz because I don't feel right owning a 'sport' watch for the following reasons:
1) Diving: My dive instructor friend finally talked me into getting certified a few years back, and on our first dive trip and my very first real dive I got bumped by a white tip reef shark. Ok........diving career over in about 6 minutes flat. 2) Flying: I've had 2 very bad experiences on commercial flights and am now 100% scared stiff to ever get on a plane again, any plane. 3) Exploring: Forget about it......there's mosquitoes, you could twist an ankle, get heat stroke, venomous snakes.....nope, not for me. At my age, the only thing I want to 'explore' is the dinner buffet and cigar bar at a nice hotel. 4) Yachting: With all the money I've spent on watches in the past several years, I'm lucky if I could now afford a fiberglass canoe. So there lies my dilemma, given my circumstances could I ever really be a proud Submariner owner when the only time it would ever see water is if I wore it in the shower? Any advice appreciated.

Probably 98% of submariners don't see water. I don't see that as an issue. However if you don't like the watch or think it doesn't suit you then get what you feel more comfortable with. But only you will know that.

It looks like you're going for a collection of OQs.

If the sub doesn't make you smile, pass it along to somebody who will and get what makes you happy!

Sounds to me like you have an oyster quartz fondnes developing (or maybe full blown ). If you don't love the sub, and would prefer and enjoy anothe OQ, go for it! I'm just the opposite, I love the Sub (have 4) but have no interest in an OQ model, just doesn't do anything for me.

Are the only people who dive the only one's who need to measure lapsed time and get their watches wet?
Commercial aircraft suck. Get someone to take you up in a general aviation plane and get the pilot to let you take the controls for a few minutes. I think, you'd like that. Also, get the pilot to do a couple of stalls and spins and maybe let you do it, too. That ought to cure your fear of flying. Just buy the watch you like and don't worry about the rest. |

Rolex's OQ is still one of the best in the quartz movement class.
