Suspect GMT at tourneau

OK - I'm not going to call it a fake -
but I was at tourneau looking at the used watches
Saw a GMT coke.
tag on it said it was 1995, but they didn't know the serial number, didn't have any boxes or papers, and wouldn't take the braclet off.

of course the lady helping me knew zip about rolex

when playing with it, it had a quick date feature, but you could not turn the hour hands (like on my 16710 and 116713)
so is that just an older GMT movement? As recent as 1995?

also - the cyclopse was WAY out of place. Did not line up with the date at all. It was crooked and too low.
think it fell off and there was some half-ass effort to glue it back on?

rest of the watch seemed legit. everything on the dial looked good.
However the braclet and clasp were MINT condition - which must be impossible for a 15 year old watch. Didn't look aftermarket, but can't believe that place would put a new one on.

best of all - they want $5,500 for it !!!!!!!!!!

thoughts?
is this just a worked over rolex?
what's up with that movement?
maybe they just got the year wrong?

It's probably a 16700 with a misaligned cyclops..

May I intrest you in a preowned SS Daytona my local Tour-NO has one for the low, low close-out price of $16,000.

I would never buy from there -
but they are so dumb, I just wanted to check if they had a GMT 16710 M series with new movement inside - I could see them not knowing what it is really worth.

I think it's funny they are trying to get $5,500 for a messed up GMT with no box/papers - when you can find complete sets from legit sellers at $4k and less.

they also had plenty of used Omega's, Breilting's, and TAG's (with no boxes or papers or course) for as much as 25% off the MSRP price for a new one.
Who could pass on that deal ????

I would buy any watch from them except Rolex I bought my Bremont from them new. They are the only US AD for the brand so I really had no choice. However, they were pretty cool and gave me 1500 off the top without even asking. They will give decent discounts on anything but Rolex.

Are you speaking of the Tourneau at Somerset Collection? I haven't been in there in awhile.

yes -
they are hurting (poor service and high prices in bad times)

AND - Tappers is opening a store in Somerset - that should be the final nail in the coffin for them.

Agreed. Poor service indeed. I was considering buying an Omega from them, but the rep wasn't very attentive, nor did he seem interested - sort of sullen.

They have a big selection, but a sour-puss staff.

Also, I don't understand why they won't discount Rolex???

You mean it had no hour jump-hand that can be set independently of the 24-hour hand? The GMT "I" doesn't have such a hand - the hour hand is synchronised with the 24-hour hand.

Yeah, sounds like a GMT not a GMT II.
It has a different movement without the independent GMT hand.
Great price!
It's rare and discontinued, you know.

there is probably over a dozen Rolex AD's around me, and everyone but this place does give decent discount - even Jared started discounting non-sports models - having swearing they never would

The staff in that particular store, particularly who I assume is the manager, is about as cold and stiff as you could find. Very 'uppity'. Seems like they want to make you feel 'un worthy' if you ask to look at a Rolex. Tappers will shut them down.

Nothing suss about a new looking bracelet. Was probably fresh from a polish/brush.

Try the Tourneau at the Roosevelt Field Mall on Long Island. Ask for Alex- very knowledgable and professional. Also got a nice discount on a GMT IIC.

I witnessed a "fugazi" Breitling for Bentley Mulliner Torubillon at MALL Torneau in California. The model saleslady pulled it out of the preowned display cabinet and was showing it to a trio of "Ballers", that go for this Iced out bling stuff.

Little did all of them know that it was a -$50 piece of crap and the real thing is in the $100k range.

Be cautious of Tourneau preowned/trade-ins with suspect documentation.

You know what now that I think of it my first impression of the SS Daytona they had was that it was very light. I held one that a friend of mine has and it was heavy but the one at Tour-NO didn't feel as heavy.
