Hello Bob!
Nice you call our attention on Mr. Connery birthday.
He is the best Bond ever (imho), and I´m a fan of Bond films and books since I viewed my first Bond films in 1965.

This is the closest one I can have on my wrist for the occasion, and I invite to post an Special Thread on August 25th, dedicated to Connery/Bond, with each TRF member showing his own Sub.

Thank you!! Best cordial regards, Abel.

True Jeff! Nice you mention that. Dr No was released in 1962, followed by From Rusia with Love (63) and Goldfinger in 64.
It looks like it was faster to make a Bond film in those years.
I watched my first film Goldfinger, in 1965, and got hooked. I viewed the two previous films inmediatelly after "meeting" Bond in that film.
I was so happy in 1966, when my parents presented me a Submariner (5513) "just like Bond", for my 18th birthday.
Didn´t know a word about reference numbers in those days, and a Sub was Sub for me!

Nice to bring these memories here!
Thank you and kind regards, Abel.

I guess without all the modern cgi stuff in the movies they did make them faster, Mr. Broccoli was genius by popping those movies out every year to create the buzz for Bond.
A 5513 on your birthday... thats awesome, do you still have it?

Hello Jeff! Yes, I guess it is like you say. Broccoli and Flemming made a great combination to make Bond a modern myth.

Regarding my first Rolex a 5513 Sub, unfortunately it was taken from me during an armed robbery I suffered in February 1977.
I really miss that Sub, which meant so much to me.
My wife presented me a 1680 she bought brand new two days after the robbery, which still own (as a matter of fact, I showed in a post after its last service a month ago). I also bought a replacement 1978 5513 Sub.
But no one make me forget that first Rolex Sub of 1966 I was so proud to own!!

Thank you for asking, and sharing Bond passion.
best cordial regards, Abel.

1978 5513 (bought pre owned)

1977 1680 (bought brand new in 1977)

Ok, I'll rummage around, I must have some skinya** nato strap around here
Recently I went to a funeral for an old friend, he was getting interred at a local cemetery. When we went out to the mausoleum for the final part, I noticed one wall plaque right near my friend's spot "Albert "Cubby" Broccoli" the man himself.

Bob: Thanks for the reminder. I am also a big Bond fan, having read several of Fleming's books after seeing a couple of the films. I will be in Fla w/my son and a friend of his on the 25th. I will have to queue up a Bond film AND wear my Sub that night.
