Help me appreciate the no date...
Help me appreciate the allure of the no date Rolex watch. I always seen posts admiring the no date or wishes lists that include the no date.
I don't know....to me it seems the date and that great big cyclops staring back at me was part of the allure of having a Rolex watch. I love the cyclops and my date. I mean I love the size and look of the DSSW (I'm a big guy 6'3" 290) and I think it would go great on my wrist, but the fact that it doesn't have the cyclops automatically disqualifies it for me. Help me understand this... |

Many different reasons for each and every owner...
For me it's the simplicity!!

Beautiful, simple and uncluttered:
I have to admit I have never been a big fan of the Cyclops. Until now. For some reason, when they came out with the new Sub-C, it changed everything for me. Maybe it's the proportion, I don't know, but I am loving the date with the Cyclops on this model. It has also been lately that I admit to missing the date function, especially at work. I can't find a thing wrong with the new Sub. It changes a lot of things for me. Cheers, Carl

I am a big fan of the cyclops...I dig the cyclops...makes it easier for my old eyes to see the date!
But it's good to have some Rolexes without a date....daytona, sub, explorer, oyster perp. no date.....terrific timepieces.

My next watch will without a doubt be an older (early-mid 90's would be nice) no date 16040.
I love the clean uncluttered look.

The No Date is SO CLEAN a look, particularly the the Non COSC version pictured above. As a fellow big guy, I have a 7 3/4+ inch wrist, it can look a little small. Just today I tried on a bunch of different sport models including a DSSD. While very impressive and size appropriate on my wrist it is simply HUGE and VERY HEAVY. I just couldn't see myself being comfortable with it, long term. I've got a GMT II w/ Pepsi and Coke bezels. They wear a little larger than the No Date or Date model Subs and i think they are a great alternative to the DSSD or No Date/Date models.

It's simple and uncluttered. Plus, it is closes to the original Sub. It is a classic. I'm 6'2 240 lbs and it looked good on me. It wasn't too small. It's just a bad ass simple rugged tough watch.

I agree about the cyclops and the date, in fact I probably check my watch as often for the date as the time. On e flip side, I love the symmetrical simplicity of my 14060. The lack of a date makes it more legible too, a big bonus on a dive watch. In fact, the 14060 has replaced my SD as my go to diving watch.

Some watches are just true classics.........
........ Showing off a cyclops on your wrist isn't always what it's all about.... Daytona.......... Nope Sub.............. Nope Sea Dweller....... Nope Original Explorer.........Nope Original Air King........ Nope Or anything earlier than the mid-fifties................. Nope......... ..........
