Anniversary coming up...

My 23rd anniversary is coming up and I'm still trying to figure out what to get my wife. I've considered the Lady DJ, fluted bezel, diamond dial, jubilee bracelet for her.

Both me and my wife are fairly rough and tumble, sports and outdoors types. No sure if a prissy, diamond dial, diamond bezel would suit her. What do you think? What rolexes do your ladies (wives, GFs and SOs) wear?

This picture is from Rocky Mountain National Park when we vacationed in Estes Park, CO this summer.

Get her a stainless steel Daytona (white dial). They are dressy and sporty, women look great in them, and on the days she wears something else, drop a link or two and you can wear it too...

Maybe it's a crazy idea, but if she is also a rough and sporty type, then maybe you could get her a SS Sub-C? Or if she prefers white dial, an Exp-II.

My wife recently changed her mind about what she likes to wear. First she wore small, 27-30mm ladies watches with diamonds if possible. Then she suddenly showed interest in bigger watches. Just yesterday she tried on a 39mm Breitling Chrono Galactic at a local AD, and she said it was stunning. Fortunately I didn't have the cash on me, so we passed on, but now I know what her xmas present might be

Today, even worse: she wore my 41mm Breitling Colt II Quartz on a short shopping trip, and said if it had a fully polished bracelet and polished case, I could well kiss it goodbye because she would have kept it

So I think it would be an interesting experiment to have her try on one of your watches, and ask her what she thinks about their size and presence. Just my $0.02

Congrats on you upcoming anniversary!!
I actually love girls wearing a mens size watch!
If your wife is a sports and outdoor girl my choice would be a EXP II.

Wow, that is such a wonderful milestone....congrats on #23 in advance! I agree that perhaps a larger Rolex would be the answer. I wear men's models myself and prefer them, but maybe even a mid-size would suit your wife. Have you ever taken her shopping with you at an AD to get an idea of her tastes? I'd suggest that....could be a lot of fun!

Doc,

I did the same for my wife earlier this year. Our 32nd (funny coincidence 32 - 23). She's also the outdoor type (hiker) and my challange was to find something feminine but not to prissy. I bought the watch you describe but with an oyster bracelet (brings is down a notch). She can wear it hiking, to work or evenings out. Here's some pictures. Good Luck

My wife wears my Explorer I it looks great on her without being too much of a man's watch.

I agree. My wife loves her Explorer I and it definitely fits the bill.

Best thing is to go to an AD and let her try some on, checking out photos is OK, but in person she'll get to see how they look on her wrist and help decide which one she likes best!

Explorer II

My wife wears and loves the explorer II white face. She's outdoorsy and mostly casual. She wouldn't wear it for a formal event, but nearly everything else. She's always liked tool watches though - she had on a diver the day I met her 23 years ago.

Well its looking like the YM 29mm Platty. Tried on quite a few and she liked this one without my trying to lead her any. I think it will suit her just fine...

Just for fun, has your wife tried on your watch? What does she think of the larger sports watches for herself? Just sayin' - a few years ago I would have never considered anything larger than the Lady DJ, but I bought one and rather quickly wished I'd gone with a larger watch. Not only was the dial hard to read, but the entire watch just looked too little on my wrist. So I sold it after only a couple of months. Now I wear a 34 mm Date and 40 mm Explorer II. Amazing how quickly a gal can get used to a bigger watch - and they're so much easier to read.

Personally i think a man's watch on a woman looks a bit wrong, but a watch is an individual thing, a TT ladys datejust in rose gold with the gold dust and Diamond dial jubllee bracelet is perfect, it is classy and timeless, then you could buy her a 20 dollar swatch for the really rough stuff.

A ladies' Yachtmaster would be nice. I have the ss/platinum (my avatar). Although it is the ladies' size it looks beefy and substantial. I, too, am the outdoor type. I just got back from a week at the beach (wearing my watch the entire time), and yesterday I played tennis and went for a bike ride with my watch. It looks great but is very durable. Plus, I find the bezel to be very helpful, such as timing how long I've been in the water (i.e. when to re-apply sunblock), been on my bike, etc.

Midsize YM, Explorer I, Explorer II, or a ND Sub.

My wife has at one time or another worn both my Explorer II and ND Sub, and loved both. In fact, I just bought her a ND Sub (I sold the other one, and she's ribbed me ever since, saying how I sold 'her' watch).

She's tried on the midsize YM a number of times, and when we go back to the US, I'll likely get her another one to wear for everyday use.

Good luck w/ the decision.

I tend to agree with you. But yes, she tried them on and thought they still looked too much like a man's watch. I personally was hoping she would like the Sub.

By the way she's a huge Steve McQueen fan and she always wears her watches on her right wrist like him (coincidence she says). I even told her we can get her the Sub and she can wear it on the right wrist just like Steve. Nope, she still liked the YM.

Hey Boopie

Well I will have to tell her that. Btw, you two sound like long lost sisters...

Looks like Sprague Lake. Did you catch anything?

My wife wears a TT DJ, MOP dial with diamonds. We are at an age where she needs the white background to see the hands clearly. She likes the TT because she says it goes with both yellow and white gold.
