Two questions about proper functioning of 5513 bezel?

Looked at a just serviced 88/89 5513 today (had never seen one before).

Bezel did not click when turned counterclockwise (my 2003 sub date does). Is this normal?

Also was possible to turn it a little bit clockwise. Is this normal?

Yes, the 5513 has a bi-directional bezel without clicks - press downward to facilitate turning. This design is shared with early Submariners, 5512, 1680, early GMT, Sea-Dweller, etc. The unidirectional bezel was brought in on the 16800 - the sapphire-crystal successor to the 1680.

Yup, perfectly normal. Hey, one question though, how can you become a 2009 Pledge Member when you joined this month and we're in 2010....?

Absolutely the way it was made originally. I purchased my 5513 new in 1978 from a Rolex AD. I actually prefer it as opposed to the click lock bezel on my LV Sub.

For one thing, you an always perfectly align it with the minute markers. And if you are just a few minutes past where you want the marker to be, you can go in either direction. With my LV, I have to go all the way around the dial.

Good question.

Great minds think alike. Sent this exact same question to the TRF a while ago and have not received an answer.

I see your point. Have the same issues on my Y SS sub date.

Posted the same question in new members section. Maybe mission control can tell us both.
