Do AD's accept used Rolex as trade-in for new ones?

My local dealer in Peru Won't do it (Even though I bought my Rolex from them)

I am planning to trade my Daytona D116520 in like-new condition for a Deep Sea and my older GMT TT S16710 for the newer ceramic GMT TT.

I will be in Miami/S. Florida area next week and since I dont use the watches mentioned above, I am looking forward to find a dealer that accept them as trade in for the Rolex watches I desire. I know I will lose some money here.

Anyone Knows a reputable dealer in the area that accept used Rolex in pristine condition as trade in? If that is the case, What do you think would be the Trade in Values?

Thanks.

Why not just sell it here on TRF?

Agreed. Don't expect to get a brilliant price either - they'll have to offer you under market price so they can actually make a profit and compete with grey dealers at the same time

As Eric said, some do and some don't. A small private AD will be more likely to than a chain. However, don't expect top dollar for your trade. Just like a car dealership they will quote a figure on how much a particular watch will cost if you traded your in watch against it. If you really want to go the AD route, you are better off selling your watch privately and then taking cash in a negotiating a discount on the watch you want at the AD.

The ones that do most of the time sells them out whole sale so the price you would get is horrible, e.g. The other week I asked an AD what they would give me for a 2 mos old ss GMTIIC if I bought a new ss SUb C and the answer was $2,800 USD and no discount on the Sub C. It wasn't even worth getting upset about, that AD (in Alexandria, VA) will never see me again.

Where do we go to find out what a used Rolex is worth?

Look in the for sale forum here and it is a good indication of what used rolex prices are around the world

There are books that one can buy for more vintage pieces that give prices. They are very interesting to look at.

I would have jumped the counter at an offer like that.

I know an AD that accepts trade-in as long as it's an upgrade.

Had the same thing happen to me a while back.

Agree with posts that you need to sell it yourself or trade it with a pre-onwed dealer.

I would do a search of completed e-bay sales (click the option in advanced search) to get an ideal of what your watches are selling for first.

They usually do accept trade ins but it's rarely a happy story.

In 2008 an AD offered me Ł1100 for my ND Cosc against a watch with no discount.

In the end I acquired the watch from another AD with Ł2000 discount and kept the Sub.

Dealer No 1 did not supply me the next 4 Rolex watches I bought (nor will they ever).

That would be dealer No 2, my new friendly dealer.

Tourneau is known for allowing trade-ins, but they're not exactly rated high in customer-service in most areas. I know several of the sales people at my local Tourneau and they've always been very nice to me.

Mayors in Florida typically will accept trade ins.

Miami is my home away from home, so I can help you with your question. Your only option if you want to go the AD route, is Mayor´s. The rule they use for trade ins, is that they´ll give you 50% of the current MSRP of the watch you own but up to the 50% of the MSRP of the watch you´re buying.

For example, if you´re trading in a GMT2c with an MSRP of $7,000 the trade in price is $3,500 but only if you buy a watch with an MSRP of $7,000 or more. If, for example, you buy a new watch with a MSRP of $6,000 the trade in price will be $3,000.

If you do a trade in you´ll get no discount on the new watch.

If I were you I would send a PM to Bodybump/Oscar. He accepts trade ins at a fair price and will give you a good discount on the new watch. He´s located near Miami so you can do a face to face deal with him.

I deal with him last week and I couldn´t be happier.

If you are in Miami, go to Aruba Gold, 1st floor of the Seybold Building in downtown Miami. Ask for Ray, the owner. He buys used Rolexes and will give you a better price than just about anyone. He also has a fairly decent stock of Rolexes on hand to purchase.

As stated already I believe you are going to get the most money for your watches if you sell them to a private party. Stores(ADs)need to make money to stay in business so I would check into the gray market dealers who frequent this forum as to what they can do for you!!!

My AD is very similar to this. He would give me up to 70% recently but that is because I have spend a crap load of money with him lately.

It depends. My AD will offer me credit on the full original price I paid as long as I bought the watch from them and trade it in towards a watch that costs more in price. Of course, now that I have started buying some stuff here on TRF, I won't be able to get that deal on any TRF items I purchase (AFAIK).
