mental break-in period?

Just wondered how long it takes to get over that initial protective period on a new watch. I have always had a bad habit especially with cars of keeping the mileage down, babying them, etc and the next guy gets a like new car cheap! When I got my used GMT years ago, it had a few blemishes and so I just wore it from the git go. Now with the new Sub I bought a few days ago, I'm getting paranoid again. Taking it off anytime I'm doing anything remotely risky to the watch, making sure my cuffs aren't apt to scratch, etc. I'm sure after I get a little wear on it I'll loosen up but its a little crazy till then. Also, wondered how many of you list your watch on your homeowners insurance. It's not cheap. I guess its a case of if you can't afford it.......

When I got my LV I did not want to wear it or take off the protective plastic. That lasted about 24 hours. Too cool not to wear. I just listed my watches on my homeowner's policy yesterday. An additional $69 per year.

That 'protective" period lasted a few months for me. I remember the first time I scratched the case of my GMT by the crown...I was really upset. But now I just don't get too bothered by it. I can always have it polished back to like new condition. Bottom line...wear it and enjoy it!

Same here. My '96 Riviera has 70K on it, never seen snow, all replacement parts are G.M.

I bought my TT Sub pre-owned but in J.J. condition and from the get go I decided that it was a watch, not the Holy Grail. Damn the torpedos, I'd wear it regardless. After a year or so it started looking beat to ratsh*t, scratches all over and a big divot in the edge of the crystal. I sent it in to the Toronto RSC who worked their magic and shipped me back a watch that looked brand new. For $1,040. Since then, I've taken a much more conservative approach. If I think my activity could scratch it, I take it off. I wear it to work, but only on the days when I'm scheduled to teach theory all day. On days with practical labs, it stays on the winder and I wear a beater.

I was well aware of situations like that, especially on cars, cameras, watches, cell phone, etc.

I think the normal wear gives a personal belonging to the item, so I am cool with it.

First ding or scrath sorta does it for me. From then on, I stop worrying about it. I'll send y'all a pic of the ding I put on my LV the other day. It brought a smile to my face knowing that finally it's looking like a watch of mine.

I don't have "nice" things. I have "my" things. Even the TT Blue is showing scratches here and there on the gold sections of the oyster links...

I'm the same way and it drives me crazy. I hope after a few more weeks, and maybe a few battle scars, that feeling wears off.
