rolex changing the daytona?

i wanted to know if rolex will ever change and update the daytona in the future?

i would have thought they would be soon but after they updated the clasp on the new v series, it doesnt seem like it...

why would they update the clasp and not the watch? does that mean they want to keep the classic look? just like the way rolex has not really changed the daydates over the years but only little upgrades like clasp etc..?

The 50th Anniversary of the Daytona/Cosmograph is coming up.... I'd imagine they'll update it then.

I have never had a Daytona. One reason is I like a date and the other is I was unsure if I could ever learn to work it. I am a carbon paper guy in the computer age. I have trouble programing my cell phone and forget the VCR. Thank goodness for my wife of soon to be 26 years -in three days- who is a technical wizzard. I just could not face the thoughts of saying "Can you help me learn to work this watch please honey?" LOL

There might be an anniversary edition with modifications, but I think the current configuration overall, might remain the same.

But then again, a completely new version can appear.

theres no way rolex would ever add a date.. that would change the daytona too much from its original form..

rolex in the past had only put very slight differences on an anniversary edition watch.. i wouldnt call them upgrades, just different features..

i predict this,
if rolex is to have an anniversary daytona, it will be as slight as just having a green chrono minute hand or all hands being green.

also, i can see them only doing it on the all gold models. this, on rolex's part, would be a very smart move as they never have had a problem selling SS daytonas, they would make the all gold models anniversary to spike up sales in the all gold area... think about how high sales would spike if they did this. the gold would be selling as well as the SS models.. until it dies down of course.

but, being the daytona has had its classic look for years, i just dont think rolex would ever change it, like adding a date feature, as much as i would like the date, i just dont see it.

if they did an anniversary, then my predictions up above is what i think will happen with the slight changes.

but remember, rolex didnt make other watches anniversary when they hit 50 years, maybe they wont do the daytona... esp since they have changed most models and upgraded them..
maybe the daytona getting a new clasp and the blue hair spring are the updates for the next few years..

but like i said, if theres gonna be an anniversary, its going to be green hands and only on gold models.. i can see an arabic dial with maybe a limited color.. maybe even a green dial and regular hands? but thats about it

They've done it with the Submariner: they've added date to a watch that had no date function.

Are you sure they didn't? AFAIK in 2003 Rolex released their first green bezeled watch (Sub-LV) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Sub. AFAIK in 2005 they released their first ceramic bezeled watch (GMT IIC) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the GMT-Master.

Based on the success of the Tudor Heritage, and it appears to be selling well, I would not be surprised to see a few heritage models from Rolex. The 50th anniv of the Daytona would be a perfect time. Remember the Exp II we saw around Basel of this year? Rumor or not, it had a lot of people excited! Can you imagine how a heritage PN Daytona would sell!

I believe what SubKing was stating is that not every watch that has attained a 50 year anniversary has had an anniversary model made. The Datejust would have had its 50th anniversary in 1995, no anniversary model was made. The 50th anniversary Submariner was the first anniversary Rolex.

There are rolexs that have not had any recognition for anniversary. I really don't see them doing one on the daytona. But if they do it will be only on the all gold models as rolex doesn't have problems selling ss..

Can you name any ROLEX SPORTS models that they HAVEN'T celebrated an anniversary for?

I see no reason why they wouldn't do it for one of their most iconic sports watches.... they did it for the GMT and Sub... why not the Daytona?

Personally I'd like to see a heritage piece... a throwback to the 6263 and/or 6239... exotic dial options... black bezel inserts and all!!

me that reminds of Tudor Heritage, Zenith Vintage 1969 and Tag Heuer Chrono..... out of the 3, im very keen on the Zenith Vintage 1969
