Chipped Surface?
I discovered that the smooth brushed surface can chip off leaving a smooth mark that can be seen under light.
It happened at the buckle area above the Rolex crown. I was quite annoyed and brought it to RSC and they polished it off. They refused to change a new buckle. Quite annoyed that i have to polish a new watch. Now, i noticed another small chipped surface at one of the link. Not very visible under light though. How can this happen? No QA or poor finishing? |

Steel is the same wheter brushed or polished.
What did you do to the watch to cause the damage? There have been issues regarding bad steel batches, but no mention of brittle crumbling type problems. If it happens on the inside of the bracelet that's a big problem. If you dinged it, and think it should be more reliable, keep an eye on it. Maybe you smacked it pretty good, and didn't realize it. |

How about some pics of the damaged area. This would be a first for me, I have never heard of steel chipping off a Rolex...dings & scrapes, yes, but chips no.

Sorry, no pics.
As mentioned in my original post, it has been polished off by RSC FOC. Just to describe it : If you look at the brushed surface now, you can see very fine smooth lines. This is normal. For the chipped surface i have described, i can see a small rectangular spot that does not have the fine smooth lines, but when you feel it, it is smooth. It is visible under light, like a bald spot among the brushed surface. RSC says it is a chip. I would think this is a manufacturing defect. Although RSC thought otherwise. |
