Presidential questions

Hi all new to the forum! I have a question about the rolex presidential.

I am in the process of purchasing a 118238 DD and i wanted to know just about how many carats of diamonds do you get with this watch as well as the" size " of the baugette stones that are in the watch!

Any answers to these questions will be greatly appreciated....

Wow I have never actually measured of tried to find out, good question. But the simplest answer I can give you "the carats of diamonds on the dial is not anywhere near what it's originally worth than the premium you're paying for the diamond dial".

Well with Ct weight with diamonds like on say on a Rolex dial diamonds are quite small and in reality not a huge value if you bought the diamonds yourself, compared to what you pay Rolex. Now buy a 1Ct weight single diamond with good colour and very little internal flaws now thats a very different ball game.Small diamonds even good quality ones under 10 points are not really expensive wholesale when bought in bulk.

Agree!! because when it comes to diamonds, the small sizes are so common and easily available that the price for them are quiet cheap buying them seperate. Diamonds on a dial with Rolex on it, well you do pay for the name, previledge, and workmanship.

Well don't want to put you off but in general today if bought new gold and diamond watches are not the best value for money. But in general if you bargain quite hard you can normally get up to 20/25% off retail. And gold/diamond watches are not huge fast volume sellers, now if AD has say a NOS he has for some time then perhaps a better discount just to sell it.

Buy it because you love it.
Because you have your eyes on it.
Because of the grandeur and allure.
Because you can't sleep at night.
Many do.
Like me.
But if you are worried about return investment then it is not a good idea to even consider it.

Well TRF you guys have a lot of rich knowledge in regards to these timepieces, I have a friend with the exact same model and he is getting the stones checked today!

Once he confirms with me what the jeweler said then i will give a full report!

I feel like if i'm going to invest money into my first rolex i need to know if these stones really are carats or just cubic.

Thanks for all the feedback and any other suggestions are welcome....Cheers

You'll never get a true carat weight from Rolex, they choose not to reveal it. But, they tell you the color and clarity.

Majority of the Rolex Diamond Dials use single cut diamonds. Aftermarket usually are full cut and gives more brilliance.

As for cost, depends who you buy from...prices can range from $500 to over $2,500. Really depends who's the proudest.

...I do agree...buy it because you like it...not because it's an investment, because it's not.

Its very different story of having say a 1ct dial made out of say 10 small stones price wise, than having a 1Ct single stone diamond.

Hi guys before we go any more into this, me showing my everose day date with a meteorite diamond dial which in UK prices takes the 118235 president DD everose gold model from £18570.00 to £23050.00 which makes the dial £4480.00, now what are the diamonds worth, in the diamond market a 1ct = 100 points diamond can be bought from as little as £600.00 trade, up to maybe £30,000.00 it all depends on the four Cs cut, colour, clarity and carat weight, There are various Cuts round brilliant being the most common, then emerald cut, heart, marquise, oval, pear, princess, radiant, ETC, Colour the first is colourless and near colourless being most expesive, then you go down the scales, Clarity is the cleanlynes, I.E inclusions, less inclusions more valuble the stone, Then Carrat size, i could go on forever, but the diamonds in the rolex dials are small, maybe only 3 to 5 points, but every one of those diamonds has to be brilliant white, they have to be colourless and most important they all have to be exactly the same size and match, this is why the Rolex dials arnt cheap........ Plus you have to work with mother of pearl or meteorite both extremely hard materials to fashion. i am no expert on diamonds it is just what information i have picked up in my life time.... So make your own minds up are the dials worth it or not???? in money terms maybe in a Rolex craftsmans time Yes...

Yep, but the whole matching, quality, labor etc. is the key point in paying a bunch more for Rolex diamonds. All you have to do is look at an after-market dial alongside a Rolex dial and there will be no doubt which is the best.

Well i said that i would give a full report on the amount of carts that are in a rolex day-date, lets just say a lot of watch and little carats which has me thinking should i purchase this piece!

This piece cost over 16000 USD and before i sign on the dotted line i'm only getting one carat of diamonds for that amount.

This will be my first major purchase of a luxury item in terms of apparel and that's all i get!

I have been looking at other brands like omega, patek etc that have more carats!

Weigh in....

A full cut round brilliant cut diamond has between 54 and 58 facets or angles which capture and reflect light, whereas a single cut has one cut at the top which is a lot less brilliant. From the above photo, it seems that Rolex uses full cut diamonds. Diamond pricing is directly proportional to the size- a full cut stone is not twice as expensive as a half carat- it's 4-6 times more expensive as it is much rarer. A 2 carat stone can be up to ten times more expensive, dependent on cut, color, and inclusions. As others have said, the expense of the Rolex dial is largely due to labor costs to match and set the stones. Are you getting value for the $? If you have to ask ...........

From what I have learned recently from jewelers (because I sold some to fund my rolex purchases) is that there is a surplus of diamonds, so in most cases they try to get the stones for free and just offer the scrap price for precious metals. Exception of course, as stated previously, is the larger diamonds, preferrably a carat or more. Buy because you like it, not as an investment.

I think some of you guys are missing the point, firstly it is the purity of the perfect stones, secondly it is the uniformatry IE every stone matching and thirdly the work of the craftsman. All these factors are in the expense of the diamond dial, not the worth of the diamonds.......... if you whant it go and get it.........

You will loose the Presidential status if you stray.
Put your friend's President next to this Omega and compare.
See which one has more class and status symbol.

"The President or not to be" is the question.
