Surprised Me.....Sub or GMT Sales
While surfing on the Timezone forum, I came across an interesting tread, dating Nov.02,2010, where James Dowling responded and one of his sentences was. Quote: The GMT has always outsold the Sub by a considerable margin, even though most watchnuts consider the Sub the more iconic watch. Unquote. The fact that the GMT has always outsold the Sub surprises me, then you add the words by a considerable margin,Wow,I would have thought it would have been the other way around. Anyone else Surprised? Regards Casey

Not too surprised. I think we certainly get a slanted view of reality by being members of TRF. The general consensus of the forum represents only the most hard-core WIS and most likely 1% or less of the general Rolex buying public.
If you simply compare the feature set of both watches...most casual buyers are probably far more likely to travel and require a second time zone than to dive below the 330ft threshold that the GMT offers.

not surprising to me. When I began buying Rolex a few years back, I picked the 16710 GMT-II Pepsi over the 16610 sub. Overtime, I've grown to love the 16610 but still prefer the GMT-II Pepsi.

I'm not surprised either to hear that the GMT outsells the Sub. Even anecdotally, I have seen far more GMTs in the wild than Subs. I guess it is a bit surprising that it is by a "considerable" margin, especially for sales in the few years prior to the release of the GMT-c.

Would the general consensus be that this phenomena would also be reflected in pricing on the secondary market? And if so, would the more highly "wanted" GMTs sell for more because of increased demand, or would the less "wanted" Subs sell for more due to reduced availability, due to lower "new" sales?
Really nice collection!!! And a great reference tool, as well. Thank you for sharing!

Nice GMT collections! Someday I would like to have the famous "Pepsi" model on my wrist. The ratio of sales between the SUB and GMT are interesting facts. Cheers
