Rolex for wife (first time buyer)
Went by the local AD today. Think I am almost settled on a Lady DJ 26mm, 18k white, diamonds, jubilee.
Trying to decide between black or white bezel. Any suggestions for a first time buyer? The representitive I spoke with was very nice. Is it normal to recieve a discounted price off retail? If so, what do people generally see? Thanks |

Stunning watch with both dials, excellent choice. I would go for the white one,a lot more versatile with any attire.

Ordered one for the wife last x-mas, received a nominal discount(<10%). If it's one they have already in stock you should be able to do better.

Nice choice...I think she will be very pleased. Esentially the same watch I bought my wife (less the diamonds which I later regretted). The fluted bezel and diamonds will catch the light nicely and the jubilee braclet is comfortable and I like the Rolex Crown clasp release. I beleive I was given 15% off an in-stock model (2-tone 18K yellow gold & steel) just by asking. You might even get 20% as this is a well established and long running model (depends on the authorized dealer, so shop around since it's a recession). If the jubilee braclet has center links that are 18K gold, make sure it's a more recent production model with SOLID and not HOLLOW links (look closely at the edge of the links from an angle to make sure they are machined and not bent strips of metal) which tend to stretch over time (a well known problem with older jubilee braclets, and some shops do seem to have these watches yet). Good Luck.

I hit her up for info mid-year and certain things stuck in my head like black sunburst dial, wht/gld romans,wht/gld fluted bezel, and wht/gld center jubilee links, and I knew it was something I had to order. Anything less specific can be had at a much better price. Good luck.... RS

20% off easily. I would try for 30% and settle for the 20% - 25% off range.
My AD gives me 15% off before I even begin to neg. with them. Of course I have spend a crap ton of money in that store, but all mark ups are in the same ball park. ON the watch, my opinion would be the black face. Super sharp and black is timeless and classic. ;) |

No sorry I don't know how to check for solid links by serial number, just by inspection. If it has the rolex-rolex-rolex engraving & serial number around the inside of the bezel (under the saphire crystal) as the newer models over the past 2 or so years have had, then I would think it's a safe bet that the links are solid. Good Luck in your selection. Make sure you can exchange it just in case (don't get it sized before hand or else it's yours to keep). Cheers

Thanks for all the great information. They are willing to do a Jan 15 return, so will be plenty of time.
