Just one word for the 41mm DateJust II....

Gaudy! That was what the case full of DJ II's screamed to me at the Rolex Corp store in South Coast Plaza today.

What was once the standard of understated, durable elegance, at home in any environment/situation now screams the essence of BLING: "desperately insecure... look at me!"

Sorry...just had to share....

One persons bling is another persons beauty! That's the great thing about watches, there is a model out there for everyone. And just because you like the brand doesn't mean you have to like every model.
A long winded way to say "to each his own"! Cheers :)

Only thing I don't like about them is the new bezel. Maybe if the ridges were closer together it wouldn't look so gaudy/cheap to me. A smooth bezel is the only way to go if they don't change the fluted bezel.

They do nothing for me either....36mm was perfest in my opinion.....but as has been posted each to their own......beauty is in the eye of the beholder....etc etc

Not a big fan of the current DJ2 lineup. The stick dials look off to me, as does the fluted bezel.

However, the dark gray arabic dial with a smooth bezel and oyster bracelet would probably be a winner. Hopefully someone at Rolex is reading this.

The DJ is still in the line up and I suspect it will be long after the DJII is discontinued.

It may have looked better if the bezel had not been made so much thicker, proportionally on the DJII. That extra thick bezel contributes greatly to the extra "bling" for me as well...

I agree that a domed or smooth bezel would look great on the DJ II. I had my eye on the DJ II, but opted for the Omega Aqua Terra 41.5mm instead because I just couldn't get on board with that bezel.

Agree. The bezel has grown out of proportion and the ridges are too far apart, which has taken the understated class out of the model to my eyes. Still, I find that even when I am initially turned off, updated Rolexes tend to grow on me, so I never say never.

WOW.. Neon. That says it all about where Rolex is going folks. I am definitely spending most all my time in the vintage forums and hunting for more vintage Rolex models.

The photos of the DJII are beautiful, but I didn't love it when I tried it on. It's a bit too big at 41mm and too blingy.

I personally like the DJII. For myself, it's the 36mm model all the way because it is everything I like about Rolex;classic, understated, elegant. The 41mm is the same thing just not as understated, which means it appeals to different people. I'm about 6'1 200lbs, and I like the 36mm model, but if I were 6'4 250 I'd probably get the 41mm. Different strokes!

I agree, I'll stick with the 36mm DJ's and DD's.

Precisely. I have nothing against larger watches, but Rolex has been making several lines not just larger, but *bulkier*. No longer any sense of purpose of elegance apparent in the designs. For instance, here's a design guided by the principles of purpose and elegance, and it's beautiful!

Can you be any more of a jerk. Someone just posted a watch they just bought and you piss on it. In the world of horology, there are many many examples of exceptional watches with bold colors on it.

What a closed minded individual. Sad.

zlin- Nice watch. Wear it in good health.

I tried on a 36 mm DJ and it just see me a bit too small. I decided to go with the 41 mm DJII. I like the fluted bezel on this watch. I think it is a gorgeous watch myself.

+1

I really like that dial zlin, my favourite DJ II dial
But like others here I don't like the fluted bezel, it's just too wide and dominating visually. I'm hoping to see a smooth bezel on this watch at Basel next year

I wish they would have gone from 36mm to 39mm for the DJ/ DJII instead of all the way to 41mm. I don't see myself ever buying a watch over 40mm. My wrist is about "average" size and the DJII just looks huge on it.

Lovely watch zlin. I really like the blue bezel and the 2 tone lume is very cool too.

As for the DJ vs DJII question; I'd go for the DJII as the DJ looks too small on my wrist
In fact, I'd probably this very same one

Guys, let's give the 41mm diameter a rest. Yes, it is 1mm bigger than say a Sub, but that is the dial diameter difference.
If you put them side by side, the total physical size of the two is almost the same.

Each to his/her own.

I don't even own a DJII & your post offends me.

Just because a watch (or indeed anything) is not to your personal taste it doesn't mean you have the right to trash it.

Just goes to show:

Anyone can buy a Rolex but you can't buy class.

There's a lot to like, that's the coolest lume shot this side of a Milgauss GV, and the readability and style is incredible, VERY nice choice.

I'd love to see a side-by-side comparison shot of the 36mm and the 41mm.

Does anybody here have such a pic?
