Canon G7 Practice Pic's of date & dial no.

Started getting around to practicing with the Canon G7. Two close up pic's of a seiko date & dial number. WOW! grainy and out of focus. Hand held no tripod.

Not so much the "hand held, no tripod" bit....you've gone in way too close for those shots.

Does that camera have a "macro" setting? If so you need to use it. As JJ said, you need to back off a little and get it in focus before hitting the button.

Here's a macro shot I took last week w/ a camera that's not as good as the one you've got.
