Bald Eagles

I'm off this week and took a few days to head north to shoot Bald Eagles. I get excited every time I see one and it was a blast watching this magnificent bird hunting and soaring with the winds. I can see why it was chosen as the national symbol of the U.S.

Benjamin Franklin had a different idea for our national symbol and thought the Bald Eagle a bird of "bad moral character... [and the] Turkey... a much more respectable bird". What do you think?

Absolutely superb. How far north did you have to go? We have Bald Eagles on the Upper Delaware.

Don't you know that it's a federal crime to "shoot" a bald eagle.

Amazing shots by the way.

Thanks very much for the comments everyone.

Coop, these were taken at the Conowingo dam in northern Maryland on the Susquehanna river which is not too far from Delaware. It's probably the best place around this area to see these eagles.

I am absolutely amazed by the beauty and perfection of, both, the creature and your gift of capturing it in your photographs!

Thank you so much for freely sharing these wonderful pictures with us. They are of breathtaking elegance.

I couldnt agree with you more...
Up here, in the Vancouver area, we have a Natural Habitat/Winter Home for the Bald Eagles ..
We often take a ride up north, at around this time of year to witness this event...!

That is an amazing number of eagles in one area. Thanks for the link. Another place on my list to visit some day.

Thanks! I'm using a 500mm f/4 with a 1.4 converter which = 700mm.
