Anyone have a GMT IIC Deepsea Rotation? I do. Now I have issues.

Hello TRF!

I just wanted to say that I love this GMT IIC. My wife surprised me with it as a birthday, christmas and promotion gift yesterday. I have been contemplating this watch as an addition to my Deepsea since the my promotion requires me to sport a suit and travel. The deepsea looks funny with a suit IMO

This new GMT IIC watch brings up some interesting thoughts and questions about my Deepsea that I wanted to share with you all.

1) I like the feel of the GMT IIC better than the deepsea...DAMIT!
2) I am contemplating flipping my Deepsea for a Sub C... DAMIT!
3) I don't WANT to flip my Deepsea....DAMMMMIT!

Is there anyone else in the room that suffers from this or any similar terrible affliction? What in theeee hellll should I do?!?!?

Looking forward to the therapy.

Brian

Sorry Brian....I'm laughing with you , not at you!!

You do have a dilema I guess!?!?!
Now that you have the IIc, do you think you will wear the DSSD much??
If not, maybe it's best to let it go.......

If you really want to keep it, the only alternative really is to just save for the Subc....
What terrible problems we WIS's have....

Just hold onto the DSSD. Put it away for a few years, and try it later. That watch is a very big watch, but I love that.

I wouldn't have the Sub-c, and IIc in the same collection. They are too close to each other in size, and color.

Wait for a ceramic pepsi, and then look to trade if you like that watch. IMHO, keep the big shabookie for the weekends.

Just need to get the left cuff of all your business suits widened by an inch and rock the DSSD.

I would put the dssd away for a while and wear the gmt2c until you crave a change. Falling in and out of love for watches is part of it for me know.

I wouldn't add the sub c with a 2c.

Wear the GMT IIc during the week and the DSSD during the weekends. I wouldn't sell the DSSD and replace it with a SubC as it looks too similar. GMTIIc and SubC look similar as well but DSSD and GMT IIc, now that's a great combination, especially if the latter is TT.

It sounds like you have both worlds covered here. So, what's the issue?? Just wear your DS on weekends. Plus, my co-worker wears his DS with suit everyday and I think it looks cool. At least kind of different. If you trade in your DS with a subC, then you'll start another post saying that it looks too smiliar to your GMTIIc. Did I tell you that I'm having the same problem as you and I love them both...... :)

I think you should just keep the Deepsea unless it's really not doing it for you any more. You have two very different, and very useful watches that compliment each other very well. The Sub-C is also a very nice watch, but too much like the GMT-IIc in my opinion, at least in terms of size and general feel. I think if you end up getting the Sub-C you might crave something like the Deepsea again down the road :)

Mix up the look a little.

I don't have a GMTIIc so I don't have your problem...but hey, it's a nice problem to have - I wish I had it!

Seriously though, maybe keep both watches and use each for different purposes - the GMT IIc as your work/business watch during the week and the Deepsea for sports/leisure on weekends?

As many members have already suggested, put the DSSD aside for a while and see how you feel about it. If it comes back to you, then it is a keeper.
I have experienced the same feeling with one of mine and now it is the keeper.

As for wanting a Sub-C, I can see where you are coming from. It is a handsome piece - as much as many people think the 116710LN and 116610LN are too similar, they are not really.

- bezel font
- bracelet/PCL
- clasp (length & glidelock)
- "cleaness" of the dial
- depth rating (not that it really matters to 95% of the owners anyway..)

These were the excuse I came up to "justify" the "need" of a 116610LN on top of the 116710LN.

(follow your heart )

Give it time and you will come to your own conclusion...

No need for subc. I have the GMTIIc and it is awsome. I wear it more than my Sub TT blue. The problem for me with the DSSD is it's ratio of size to the bracelet... but thats whats bothering you since you got the GMT. The proportions are off, okay i said it........

DSSD to Daytona

Had a similar problem!

Flipped a SD for the DS, regret then forced me to flip the DS and try a GMT IIC. I then realised what I was missing and flipped again, returning to the awsome SD.

IMHO the best everyday tool watch and a real keeper!

Brian,
I've been exactly where you are. As much I love the matte dial, maxi hands/plots and the domed crystal of the Deepsea + the fact it is so superlatively over-engineered, it is just not a perfect Rolex for me. The design with the ring-lock system and relatively speaking small dial with lots of metal give an 'on steroid' design that in reality isn't very well balanced and truly beautiful. On top of that, it looks weird with a suit or with normal business clothes in the city, so at the end of the day I sold mine (twice actually, I've really tried to love this watch).

A GMTIIC gifted from your wife is a no-brainer. What a great Rolex to own/wear/enjoy!

If you want another one, I'd say take a look at a minty 16600 SD or a 1665 SD vintage. I went with the latter and it is such a joy to own/use! :-)

Or get one of these! :-)

Oh well, the correct advise is to wait and see a bit. Enjoy the Deepsea over X-mas and see how you feel about it. Meanwhile enjoy the GMTIIC.

Go with what feels good on your wrist, that's my motto. If you need to flip the DS to finance the Subc, then do it, otherwise keep it.

I echo the advice that the GMTiic and sub-c would be too similar. I would maybe just wait awhile to decide on the DSSD or sell it and put the cash away for when you get "the itch" again.

Had a DSSD, but after a few months of wearing it and the "newness" of it wore off, I realized two things: 1) it was WAY too thick and heavy, and 2) it looked terrible (IMHO) with suites. So, flipped it for a YM II YG, and never looked back.

Currently have: DD YG, DD II YG, YM II YG, and Citizen Autozilla. Thought I was liking Mr. Autozilla a lot (of ALL things!!), but now thinking of ditching her.

Daily wear: YM II YG ('cuz she's the Newbie). Her brothers and sisters are resting in my safe.

Next Rolex on "My List:" YM II WG.
