EXP II 16570 vs. TOG 116264 for daily wear

Well, I'm new to the forums, but I have been an owner for a long time. I am about to pick up a watch to wear for daily use. I have narrowed it down to a black face EXP II or a TOG with a black face as well. I recently had all my watch collection stolen, long.. ridiculous story, but at the moment this will be my only watch.

I love the EXP II, its suited for all occasions, but I keep finding myself looking at the TOG as well. It seems somewhat subdued, but a little more dressy than the EXP II. I am wondering how the TOG will wear during daily use. I also like the fact that I don't often see anyone wearing the new TOG.. it seems sophisticated without being too much.

Any opinions welcome!

Both are a good choice and i think the criteria would be how big a wrist you have. If you have a small wrist the TOG is a cracker of watch,i would love it more if they made a TOG II in 41mm. The Explorer is a comfortable daily wearer at a bigger 40mm but i do love the Red date wheel and the red second hand on the TOG, very classy.

Great points, the TOG isn't too small on my wrist, but I agree on the smallish size of the watch. A 41mm option seems like it would be a great seller, especially in current trend of massive watches.

They are pretty close in price, but the EXP II was the first one I tried on. I am just slightly hesitant because I feel like its a may be a little more on the utilitarian side. More than likely I am just being pedantic, but.. well, you know how it goes.

Considered the white dial Explorer II? IMHO, it covers a wider range of dress up/dress down needs than the black dial.

I've got both, but only wear the TOG. Not knocking the E-II, but I just like the TOG better. I personally don't necessarily think my wrist has to be covered from edge to edge by my watch, and the 36 suits me fine. I wear it some days and I wear a 42mm SMP some days, and I like it a lot.

Toughest of all possible choices!
Explorer II is most comfortable of all sport watches, but TOG on jubilee is even more comfortable, plus it can be used as dress watch as well.

Solution: use your insurance proceeds to buy both. :)

I have the black ExpII and wear it a good deal of the time...in whatever kind of situation, no matter. To me it dresses-up and dresses-down just the same. Plus, I'll work in the yard with it and not think twice since it is tough.

Also worth noting is that I liked the ExpII when I first purchased it, but the watch (and particularly the black dial) continues to impress me just a bit more every day. Plus, I found someone on eBay selling the white dial and hands...so I have that set to change up someday when I feel like wearing a white ExpII for awhile too. Groovy.

Here in NYC i've seen Subs, SubDates, Explorers, tons of DJs, and Daytonas once in a while in the wild. Just saw a gold DayDate on the LIRR this week. I see alot of watches while commuting because people hold on to the pole while moving and their sleeve hikes up their wrist to reveal the watch :) Alot of IWC on European tourists.

I've NEVER seen a TOG in the wild. ZERO.

If you want a unique watch. Go with the TOG. But be aware that the TOG is pretty blingy. That white gold bezel and jubilee bracelet shines bright in the sun which you don't always see why looking at forum wristshot photos and macro shots.

Sorry to hear about your collection being stolen. That sucks. My vote is for the Expy II, though I tend to prefer the white dial in that model. I think either would be a great choice.

Thanks to all for their input. I have also never seen a TOG in the "wild", ...lol.

I'm surprised that so many feel the white is the dressier version, when I personally feel the opposite.

I would say Turn-O-Graph, but I might be a little biased As for small, it may be just personal preference. I have a 7.5" wrist and pretty big hands and it doesn't look small to me. You can also time things from parking meters to dives with the Turn-O-Graph, which you can't do with an Explorer.

I have never tried on a TOG....but I certainly have liked what I've seen.

Tough choice...if it were to be the Exp II I'd go white also.

The TOG wears bigger than it looks due to the large dial and small bezel.

Exp II is just an extremely cool and versatile sport watch. They are the value in the Rolex sport line on the used market. Plus Mercedes hands over stick any day.

If you go to a dealer and look at a black and white Exp II, I believe most people will pick the black. However, over time the white just is bright and has more pop. I've owned both, and I'm polar over black all the way.
