How much should i be paying for this?

Hello all, im fron the uk and im new to this forum,
You all seem very knowledgable!!!

Right,

I have been after a rolex for a LONG LONG time and i have decided now is the time that i should have one :)

Im after a fairly newish pre owned rolex submariner blue face 18ct gold, looking at prices online and in shops they HUGELY range in price,
i went into a official rolex jewellers today enquiring and the gentleman told me that he had a brand new one that had been in the shop a while, it was a 2007 blue 18ct gold submariner, with box, papers unsigned, with a 2 year rolex warrentee and a further 1 year paid for warentee from the jewellers for £12.500, the price of new watches are around £17.500.

i was told to be warey of pre owned watches as some bracelets can be stretched with it being 18 ct gold, inferier parts used and that servicing should be from rolex otherwise some insurures will not pay out if the item gets stolen etc

i think this is a very good price, does anyone else have any views on this? or any help that you feel i need to know.

This looks a good price (not that I am any expert), Is it a pre owned watch or just a watch that has been in the AD's safe for a few years??

This makes no sense to me. How would an insurer know if "inferior" parts had been used or had been serviced other than by Rolex?

Have to agree and the OP did state it was a new 2007 sub bought from a AD with a full two year warranty.Now a new gold Sub in 2007 would have cost around £13.500.

thanks mate, it is a brand new 2007 model watch that has been sat in the shop for 3 years. oh and i get a 5 year warentee not 3 and a rolex service included

the shop is a rolex authorised dealer, with the serial letter of 2007.

the rolex dealer gentleman told me that when you want to service a rolex now, you cant send your watch to an authorised rolex dealer anymore which he is. you have to send it off direct to rolex.
and that if you dont get your watch serviced by rolex dealer, all be it no more, or direct from from rolex then your insurance will tell you that your watch isnt of the value stated on the papers.

so since he has had the watch for 3 years sitting in a box, he told me that he would cover the cost of sending it direct to rolex for a service for free of charge.

also does anyone now what sort of depresiation value this watch would have if i bought this watch for £12.500.
i know its an estimate but its a very expensive watch as im sure you will agree and i would like it to be round a bout the same value.

Why would a three year old new watch want a service even if its been stood stopped for three years.The recommended service for any Rolex mechanical watch is five years.And every AD I have ever known they will ship the watch to the RSC for you, and cannot see what any service has to do with insurance value.

And the actual need for service on a newer watch more likely 8-10 years for many of us--me being in that camp-unless something is wrong of course!!

i dont know why either, im not a rolex expert, im just someone after a nice watch, the fact he has offered to have the watch serviced for me surely cant be a bad thing can it?
i think basicly what he means about insurance value is that some insurance companies will do theyre very best not to pay out the full amount on an expensive watch if it has become lost or damaged, and i think he is just telling me to be aware, and pay a little more to have my watch serviced by rolex as apposed to a ''universal'' watch shop, so the insurance companies cant turn around to me and say, ''well your watch would be ''x'' amount if you had official rolex records on your papers. blah blah.
do you think i will get a better deal or would u say if this is what i want then go for it?

It's a fair price for NOS and you shouldn't have any issues with depreciation at what you are paying if down the road you want to get rid of it. Since you shouldn't need any servicing for several years, no issue with this either so Go For it! Don't forget to post pics if you get it.

"NOS" or New Old Stock which is what you described the watch as since it's "new" but not of the current year.

Keep in mind that the person telling you these things was trying to sell you a watch.

The part with the insurance is sheer speculation. My insurance company said no such thing and didn't ask where I get it serviced. Just my 2 cents.

if he offered you £12,500 I would bet he would go lower still,not sure how the ADs stock is paid for but he gave you the 2010 price but did he pay the 2007 price for it,if he did £12,500 may not be his best price?

and if you do take this watch,I would take the free sevice in a few years time rather than now as the watch shouldn't need it yet.

Solid gold Subs are often offered with discount as they are not a watch an AD would sell every week. Probably why he still has it. As peter has said, new I would have expected you to buy it for about 13500 pounds less say 15% or 11475 pounds. If he is offering you a service why not ask him if he will take off the price of a service so you could have it done in another 5 years
This is starting to look like an 11000 pound gold Rolex.
If he has had it since 2007 "Z"? then a bit of haggling won't hurt IMO.

MSRP on a all YG Submariner in 2007 had to be in the mid $20k range so he is getting 25% off however I missed the $12500 being BPS instead of Euro so he is asking $19750 USD vs $16500 which I believed. Also think you can do a little better if you shop around. There are dozens available from reliable stores and it seems you should be able to get one in the £11,000-11,500 range pretty easily.
