a few people have emailed me asking about this 1680..
that is listed on ebay with a certificut..
http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Rolex-16...item3cb327603d there is no possible way that this case is real..and there are several reasons for this.. can anyone list the number one reason that tells me that this case has to be fake? |

First off, if it was a 1978, it would be a 5 mil serial. I believe an 8 mil would not even be a 1680.
I know, cuz I'm wearing my 5.4 mil 1680 as I type and it's from 1978! |

1. long E
2. the date and vin do not agree to 1978 3. it looks factory fresh besides, how could a case be mated to a set of papers while the watch was purportedly parted out at some earlier date. makes no sense. Harry |

8.7 mil serial would denote a 16800 model.

Let's start with the warranty paper. The correct style number found on a warranty paper for a 1680 is R168000B931500 not R16803330.
Serial number 8271912 would be circa 1983/1984, long after the end of 1680 Submariner production. The typed warranty paper is on the cusp of 1680 production. You do not see many 1680's with typed warranty papers vs. the punched warranty, but it is possible toward the end of the production era - circa 1978. Most of the 1680's with 1978 serial numbers were not sold until the early 1980's. The bezel insert is counterfeit, to include that huge pearl. The photos of the case are too poor for me to judge the case. Based on my observations I wouldn't touch this auction. Why someone would have a case and warranty paper, and nothing else is highly suspicious. Add the fact that the warranty paper is concocted, and the bezel insert is a fake makes for a big "thumbs down." Here is a pic from the auction:
