New or second hand ?
I bought 2 Rolex in my life : 1 second hand and 1 new
The pleasure with the new one was higher. I metal felt different under the fingers. I seemed smoother. I could tell buy touching the polished sides which watch was the new one. Did you noticed this difference ? |

At the time I purchased my watches all but one weren't availible as second hand. There is a special feeling, but it is purely emotional. However there isn't any real difference in the actual feel of the watch.

I guess if the secondhand one is many years old then yes, you can tell the difference.

I can't see how you would have the same feeling with a second hand than walking in to an AD and coming out with a new one.

Only ever bought one new Rolex from a AD and that was a insurance replacement for a SD I lost while diving in the Red sea.But what is a new watch today the one with the latest case stamp whose movement could be weeks, months, or years old. Some today refuse watches from ADs that don't have the latest case stamp. Are these still new watches if they still have stickers attached etc even if they have been at AD for months or years. If a watch is in mint condition from reliable source and quite a price difference give me used every time.

One that is not second hand, not been owned and used by someone previously, not pre-loved or whatever else people wish to call it.

For me it's 'new' when you're getting the watch on/for a special occasion. 'Second hand' would be ok for me, if it's just the watch itself you're after. So the ranking goes:
NEW better than SECOND HAND better than NO WATCH |

I agree, buying a second hand watch is no problem for me... BUT, I have to say.. There is something about stopping by an AD, being treated nicely and walking out of there with a completely new watch...

I don't ask if you prefer used or new but if you feel the difference I felt (it was not psychological, the metal didn't feel the same as the second hand had been polished).

Bought all my Oyster preloved. If you can actually feel the difference in your hands the only real difference is in your head not your hands, imho.

I bought new only once, a Breitling...could not stand the scratches, dings and imperfections from another....
New or used, I think with eyes shut it would be hard to tell the diff on the wrist.... I only buy new and still in the stickers... |

I totally agree. There is nothing like buying new from an AD when you want the full experience on a special occasion. Pre-owned is fine for those that might come and go as your collection fluctuates.
