Black dial WG Daytona
Spoke to a salesman in a large central London AD today who showed me a black dialled WG Daytona.
He told me it was a one off and had been made in error, apparently these are only meant to come in white or slate coloured dials. Now, is he audacious enough to be making this up or is he indeed telling the truth? It is currently up for £20555, may be a great investment for someone. I am intrigued to see if this is the investment opportunity of a lifetime or if he is trying an 'interesting' tactic to try and close a deal on an unsuspecting punter.... |

Pictures would make a huge difference. They do make a black dialed wg Daytona with red accents. Did it look like this??

Rolex would not make that kind of patently obvious mistake, if indeed it was a mistake.
As said there is in fact a black dial white gold Daytona anyway. Otherwise someone could have changed the dials since the watch left the factory. I don't think the AD is right somehow.

My experience with AD's is that they really don't know much more than what is in the book and they will say pretty much anything if they think you will believe it.

All I can say is that the WG Daytona is a big grey area. There might only be two "official" dials for the bracelet model, but in practice, you can have the dials for the strap model too

Definitely sounds like either he was trying to make it ssound more special than what it is actually just to make a sale or he just plain has no idea what he is talking about.

Does this work the other way as well, can you have the bracelet faces on the strap model?

I am going to go back and get some pictures. The dial didn't have the red accents like the WG, I actually went in to try it on as I thought it was SS!
If anyone in London is in the area and wants to have a look: Mappin and Webb on Regent Street... Salesman informed me that Rolex had no intention of recalling it as all papers had been issued and processed. I am intrigued. |
