Exp II or Milgauss GV ?
Now I am confused. Should I go for an Exp II (black dial) or a Milgauss GV?
The Exp II was the one I wanted years ago when I was travelling all the time, but then the GV came out with its alien-looking green crystal. Objectively, I have some use for the date and the 2nd timezone (although my BlackBerry which is always with me can tell me that info), but the GV is just so unusual. Advices please? And pictures if possible. Obrigado.

i'd get both - have the Exp II (a must have) and a GV will be added in 2011...

Expii
Had the GV.
Have the EXPII. GV: - too shiny and has the bling factor. Picked up light scratches all over the PCL's and bezel and such. GV crystal known to be brittle - mine picked up a crack in the center of the crystal - AD offered to replace it for free keeping the issue quiet. Clasp lip droops and gives the fear that it will catch and open unexpectedly. Extra thickness due to the magnetic protection makes it sit high on the wrist for no good reason. Accurate as ever. Found it a little boring to look at after a year. No date. No GMT. More Money. EXPII: - Love everything about it. Get one. It will be with you a very long time! |

Exp II is the quintessential cool sport watch. More interesting with fourth hand. GV you have PCL's.
If you want the green glow then get some Spock ears for the Star Trek convention.

While both are fine watches, get the EXP II first. Have you considered the white dial version? I love mine as it has such a clean and crisp look. Cheers, Bill

IMO - the current EXPII is one of the most comfortable Rolex available. Came close buying a White dial a couple of times, but got other Rolex watches instead.
The GV on the other hand is comfortable (if you get used to the height), good looking and can be both sporty and dressy. The PCL can be a concern for many people, but I think it suits the watch. I'm personally waiting on the 2011 EXPII white dial. I'm hoping it to be the similar size of the 116710LN. Gotta love the solid links and supercase. |

Have a white Exp II and a GV.
Love both, wear both. Wear the Exp II more as I am tough on my watches and it can take a beatin, Id scratch the heck out of the PCL on the GV if I wore it to work daily You really can't go wrong with either though.

Same situation as you wanted an black explorer, talked myself into a MG GV, love the green but after 6 months am back on the hunt for a Black Explorer. Get what you want first-the Explorer- and you will be happier. I wanted a sub, bought a sea dweller and still dream of a sub-hindsight is 20 20 so go with the Explorer which is your first want and you will be far happier. Hate the bracelett on the MG, you could be in a cloth room and pick up scratches.

I would get the Explorer II. I've seen the Milgauss lined up against Exp II, Exp I and Sub in person. Milgauss stands out as the strangest looking watch of them all.

Many thanks for all that. Not sure what PCL means and cannot find a sticky with all the abreviations.
My watch has to be solid. I wear it all the time and it takes a lot of beating (gym, horse riding, swimming, etc...). From that point of view, it sounds like the Explorer would be more appropriate. I am a bit concerned with the thickness of the GV, for sure. I still found that green crystal very clever, but starting to lean towards the Exp.

I have both, albeit a white face Exp11 and a black face (non GV) Milguass. Love the Milguass for it's size accuracy and relative simplicity, although an orange lightning bolt second hand is hardly subtle. The Exp11 will fit in with your activities perfectly, but so will most SS Rolex models. Dependable sturdy wearable and as a bonus, they happen to look superb. There are many very happy black and white face Exp11 owners for a reason. |

I like both for different reasons. I like the II for the second time zone and date, plus it seems to be a rugged watch with that fixed bezel.
I love the green Milguass; however, the lack of date eliminates it for me. I feel the same about the Daytona. While I like both watches a lot aesthetically, there is just something about looking down and not seeing the date that really bothers me. So, in the end, I give the nod to the Exp. II. But, having said that, I would wait for the new Exp. II with the orange hand. Should be a runaway hit. |

I had both but sold the Exp II Polar.
Very different watches. Most aspects (i.e. functions, advantages/disadvantages, size, weight, etc) have been covered by most. Would suggest getting the polar Exp II instead of the GV if you are planning for only 1 Rolex. It's definitely more versatile. Would also echo some by suggesting that you wait for the Exp II 2011. The upgrades, IMO, are worth the wait!

My choice would be the 'POLAR'.
I have always hankered after the model as it looks so cool. Its about the only white dial watch I like. |

Exp II all the way. It is certainly the more versatile and can take a beating, can't go wrong with that

I'd go with the black Explorer II myself, as I "need" a date.

Two very different and very nice watches. Difficult choice but I would pick the GV. It doesn't look like other Rolexes - no bezel, no Cyclops and no Oyster bracelet. As you described it - an "alien'' green crystal that you won't find elsewhere. Good luck.

Get Explorer 2 and remove cyclops for very clean, cool look. Do a search and you can see several without the cyclops (I would direct you to link but am way to technologically challenged)

Both are very fine watches but if you decide on the Explorer I like the white dial Polar over the black dial the best!!!

I am not really the waiting type once I have made the decision.... From what I have seen for the 2011 model, it is essentially an orange hand? Not a big enough deal for me. A new bracelet neither. And I would not want it bigger for sure. Is there any new feature planned. Now a new Explorer with a Glasse Verte, that would be worth the wait!....

Got a black dial Explorer II at an AD in Barcelona today. Pictures when I am back home at the end of the week because I don't know how to post them from my iPad. Tried the GV but found it too big.
The Explorer is very comfortable.
