High pressure sales and lies to close a deal. Post your experience.
I was at a Rolex AD, and the sales associate did not know I did a lot of research before comming. One sales lady was lying, deceitful, and and very high pressure sales.
This made me wonder. Some people will fall for that selling method of accepting lies as true and falling under high pressure sales pressure. How would Rolex react to someone who was told lies and used that information as a reason to buy? Would Rolex offer a full refund if the customer was lied to during the sale? Here are some of the high pressure methods she used: #1) The watch you want was purchased by another customer who left a deposit on that watch, but we will sell it to you if you buy it right now. We'll tell the other customer there was an inventory mistake. We do not expect to get another in stock for 6 to 8 months, and this is the only YM left in this state. #2) Rolex sets the maximum discounts at 5% on all watches. If the AD offered more than 5% that AD would lose the right to sell Rolex. She said this is true for all Rolex AD's and if any other jeweler offered a bigger discount they might not be an AD or the watch could be fake and that I should report that store to her. If I purchased one of these watches it could never be serviced by Rolex and if it broke I would be stuck. #3) That her store was the "main" AD for the state, and they get first choice of Rolex watches before any other AD, and that other AD's in the state get what the main AD declines. All other AD's are secondary. Because her store is classified as the "main" AD they have more ability to solve problems with Rolex, such as having the watch fixed if the customer scratches the crystal or damages the watch in a way that is not covered by the warranty. Rolex will do more for a main AD than a secondary AD. #4) She asked if I was married or had a girlfriend. Then she went on to tell me how sexy I looked in a YM and how she could never turn down a man wearing such a classy watch. She insinuated if I purchased the watch she would want to meet later in the night. |

I've been lied too. I don't go to that AD.
Was seriously pondering a SS/Pt YM. I asked "Will you discount? I have cash, I can be back in 10min with all the money?" They said, "Sorry, we only discount precious metal Rolex, both two tone and solids." I said "Whew, good thing this has a platinum dial and bezel." They said "Sorry sir, this is a steel model." I asked "Why the big difference between this and a sub then?" They said "Upgraded movement in the Yachtmaster." I said "Learn your product and I might come back."

lies
In the height of the economic downturn I went to the BMW dealer to look at/drive a 5 series. Their lot was absolutely filled, far beyond normal capacity. When the inevitable question of "what would it take to make you buy today?" came up, I said "make me a ridiculous deal that I can't refuse, and I'll get my checkbook right now" Than he started talking about how they "don't have to discount", "they sell themselves", maybe he could get some accessories, etc. I chuckled when he said that "they sold themselves", glancing across the clearly overflowing lot and said "obviously" I don't think he got the joke. Off to Benz for the ridiculous deal that I wouldn't be unable to turn down. Funny, their lot was not overloaded, I wonder why? I liked the BMW enough, but come on, nobody was buying anything. Maybe next time.

I would have bought the watch, meet her that night, have your way with her and then return the watch next day for a full refund.

Really bad. Never heard of this before at a Rolex AD. Car sales person perhaps. I would steer clear of these guys/girls.

Its alway a good tactic to play games with people like this. Like coooing over the watch for thirty minutes and say, I'll take it and ask them if they would gift wrap the thing. Then when it comes time to pay, suddenly discover that you left your method of payment in the car.
Then suddenly have the urge to shop for the Rollie or Beemer elsewhere.

I can really see when you come back after 2 weeks with a watch that gained 30 seconds a day and with gonorrhea.

She tried hard to sell me the YM, and to speed up the process so I would buy with little time to think or question what she was saying. |

Personally, I never expect sales staff to know anything, except where to find the restroom, the price of the merchandise, and store policy.
My only expectation is that they be courteous. If I do find sales staff who are knowledgeable about anything at all, it just makes for interesting conversation and doesn't influence my decision to buy. I sometimes ask questions to see if they do know their stuff, but that's mainly just for amusement.

I was in a non-Rolex AD looking at an Omega. When the salesman saw my Sub Date, he said "I'm surprised that you bought a Rolex. Everyone knows that it doesn't keep time and has a terrible service record." Of course he said that Omega was far superior. Needless to say, I didn't buy anything from this guy.

If you're as good at judging a women's interest as you are at appraising the cost of a pre-owned Rolex I'd guess you may have a disappointment on the cards.

I've had one AD say any AD that discounts must be going out of business. Or one that discounted as much as mine did must be loosing their AD status etc... They were quite offended when i told them i got a better deal than they were offering. My AD on the other hand says any rolex not purchased from an AD is counterfeit saying that they might appear real but they have counterfeit bracelets or parts to maximize profits etc... He keeps repeating this all the time. Needless to say he does give amazing deals and that's why my next watch even though i want it to be a JLC might end up being the new explorer II when it comes out.

Wow, after reading this thread, I'm a bit angry. DAVIDSW didn't do any of those things. He didn't even show me any cleavage.

That's a lot of deception all rolled into one interaction. I certainly haven't encountered anything to that extreme at a Rolex AD.
I've only come across one truly high pressure sales effort at a Rolex AD . . . even there the guy wasn't blatantly lying, just trying to get me to buy the watch on the spot. One other time a store manager was putting on a bit of a hard sell. Other than that, obviously a saleperson wants to make the sale, but I have not experienced undue pressure.
